The chapel programs con ducted by our college family for this year hove been of a varied nature, and many of them have proved highly in spirational. President Blackwell, who spoke to us on the Monday on which Founders' Day was ob served, gave us a brief history of our college, impressing us with our obligation to the past and our responsibility to the future. Through our B. S. U. council and its president, Douglas Aldrich, we have had many fine programs. Each Tuesday the assembly period is given over to the work of the B.S.U. On October 14, Ronda Robbins gave a summary of the B. S. U. convention which was held last November in Hickory, and a preview of this year's con vention which will begin Oc tober 31, in Durham. On our last B. S. U. chapel day we greatly enjoyed a talk by Douglas Aldrich, who spoke about "Reality in Christ's Living." On Thursday of last week Dr. R. L. Moore gave an in teresting talk on making the most of one's life. He empha sized the fact that we possess the ability to convert our lives into things of beauty by over coming all that is small and ugly. On Friday Mr. R. L. Lee brought us a beneficial dis cussion, admonishing us to look to God for guidance in time of temptation. In addition to the delightful concert given by the band, an other musical program, which featured David McAdams in a violin solo, "Polish Dance," by Severin, was greatly enjoyed. They were edited by Archibald Henderson, a professor at the University of North Carolina. A valuable collection of books and pamphlets was given by the late Laura Lazen- by of Statesville. She was for merly a teacher and a very active Baptist leader. Her col lection includes devotional and mission study books, poetry, biographies, and a few novels. Some of the titles are How to Pray by Fosdick, Meaning of Prayer by Torrey, and Won ders of the Tropics by H .M. Stanley. The James Long Library of approximately thirteen hun dred books was given by Rev. James Long of Erwin, Tennes see; and it holds much in store for ministerial students espe cially. Mr. Long had pastorates for thirty-four years in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. In addition to the books, periodicals, and pom phlets in the gift there were also a desk, chair, filing cases, and cabinets from Mr. Long's study. His books were given with the stipulation that they be kept intact, and they ore Peace Treaty Of ’41 B.S.U.
