Page Six. THE HILLTOP, MARS HILL COLLEGE, MARS HILL, NORTH CAROLINA. ALUMNI NOTES (Continued from Page 2) introduced at the National Stu dent Legislative Assembly in Lexington, Ky. just prior to his election to the President's seat. His bill called for immediate declaration of war against the axis powers and was defeated. When one of the longer press services sent out the story of President Hope's bill, the mother called him a bald- headed old professor who was just itching to see the U. S. in a war he wouldn't have to fight. But as the paper said, Hope is still a pre-law student and still playing a large port in student affairs in North Carolina. They are right, too, because he acted as president pro-tern of the Student Senate when the student Senators, against the advice of the faculty super visors, attempted to impeach the newly-elected president of the Senate, Norman Caudle, who was immediately returned to the chair on the oratorical basis that his removal had been "unjust, unfair, and in tolerable." President pro-tem C. C. Hope, Wake Forest and Mars Hill, handed the gavel of the State Student Senate back to Norman Caudle of Mars Hill. Boys’ Intramurals In music, our Alumni Notes can also find copy in the B. S. U. Convention in Durham. Half the Wake Forest quartet were Mars Hillians of last year. "Special music for the con vention was supplied by the Wake Forest B. S. U. quartet composed of Bob Holt and John McMillan, tenors, and Charles Logan and Elwood Bagwell, bases." Tuten. Heads Choir Group So said the Furman Hornet when Elizabeth Tuten (Mors Hill '41) was elected business manager of the Chapel Choir through vote of that organi zation. Our girls, too, make themselves felt in the great outer world of senior colleges and universities. Proctor? Sure you know him. He was the head cheer leader here, sparking Coach Roberts' Lions to their swell season last year. He is getting up in the world, too, now that he's head cheer leader at Wake Forest (that name again) and has Kemp Reece to help him. He had his picture with his micro phone and a whole column to tell the story of Dick and Kay Kyser. Seems that "Proc" lived next door to the music-maker in Rocky Mount and now, they meet at the Wake-State game. After shaking hands, Dick was heard to say, "I don't feel any different shaking his hand." All we scry is "Small World." Lawyers! Yeah, we have'em too. Wade Yates left Mors Hill after commencement exercises last spring and when the '41 term at Wake began, he went straightway into the regular law school. Not an ordinary feat since most transfers are pre-low students for a year, at least, before entering the Icrw school. Then, there's little Larry Wil liams who contributed greatly to the Philomcrthicm winning debate team last spring. He made the Wake Forest debate team in the first tryouts. We also ran across a picture (Continued from Page 5) the Hillians and the Roxies, each having won three matches while losing none. Casey's Cadoodlers have won two matches, while losing only one, to be well up in line. In the 9:30 Monday-Wednesday section the Honky-Tonks have a very definite advantage, with three wins against no losses, while the Polecats have won two and lost one. As this goes to press, the Tuesday-Thursday sections are not so far advanced in com petition as are the Monday- Wednesday sections; but to date the Yellowjackets and the Skyrockets are leading the 8:30 section. The 8:30 section is led by the Indians, followed by Brantley's Bruisers and the Deuces. In the 10:30 section the Bouncers, Moonshiners, and Jugglers are leading. In the 12:00 section we find the Tittle- y-Winks leading the Yancey- ites. TENNIS Davis And McAdams In Finals The intramural tennis tour nament is rapidly drawing to a conclusion, climaxing several weeks of good, hard tennis. Felling their opponents in each round, Tom Davis and David McAdams have come out on top, to battle it out until a single winner is determined. Davis has been in the finals for some time, but McAdams just re cently moved up into the finals in the lower bracket. Davis reached the finals after defeat ing Wilhide in the semi-finals (in the upper bracket), while McAdams defeated Rollins (in the lower bracket). The Rollins-McAdams semi finals match was a very inter esting one, for a dark horse C-I came out to win over his favored C-II opponent in suc cessive sets. This upset puts McAdams in the finals with Davis. The finals will not have been played off before the paper goes to press; so watch for the outcome in the next edition. of Gwen Potter, one of Wake's law school co-eds, who with wee Shirley Sanderlin visiting from the U. of N. C., tried hard to spin Wake Forest over Duke. Orville Campbell, a former managing editor of the Hilltop is doing an admirable job as editor of the Daily Tar Heel at Carolina this year. The U. N. C. is one of the few universities and colleges in the United States with a student daily. "Scoop" has written some syndicated columns this fall for the N. C. paper on the College Student and World War II. MARS HILL GLEANERS “Our Proposition Is A Clean One” EIGHTEEN YEARS' EXPERIEENCE Mars Hill ...
