Perhaps you were there when the lengthy faculty lecturer rapped his desk severly and called, "Order! Order, please!" E. A. Pipkin, Jr. (Pepsi- Pete), sitting at the back of the room, stirred sleepily and NGS ILLE OF Sports Serenade By Bruce Hudson Well, ladies and gentlemen, now that the football season is completed, basketball is be ginning to take the spotlight. This brings sighs of relief to some, and others hove a dis heartened look because the football season is over. Outstanding for the Lions in the closing game were Plott, Bowen, and Day in the line and Carr and Cushwa in the back- field. Hockey Game The final hockey game was held November 29 by those members of the M-Blem club who have been attending the regular scheduled hockey prac tices. Fine spirit, sportsman ship, and skill hove been dis played by all the participants at these practices. The weather was perfect Saturday for hockey, and many spectators came down to the field to enjoy the game. Beverette Middleton and her "Buddie" were the official timekeepers and scorekeepers. The C-I's were the blue team; the C-II's the black team. The line-up for the C-I team was as follows: C. F. Taylor; R. I. Bryant; L. I. Dobson; R. W. Cherry; L. W. Wilder;; R. H. Pierce; L. H. Copel; C. H. Rotella; F. F. Weston; L. F. Davis; goalkeeper, Ratcliff. Substitutes were Satterwhite, Myers, and Navy. The line-up for the C-I I team was as follows: C. F. Harris, R. I. Willis, L. I. Aydlett, R. W. Fleming, L. W. Enzar, R. H. McCleney, L. H. Drake, C! H. Flint, R. F. Hart, L. F. Jinette, Goalkeeper, Collins. The M-Blem club is proud of the enthusiasm that the girls have shown in participating in the various sports. They hove attended faithfully the different practices, and hove been working hard to win their points toward the goal of 14. The next sport that will be featured is basketball. Prac tices will begin next week and many girls ore expected to participate. Remember, girls, every practice cormts toward winning that beautiful pin! answered, "Make mine Pepsi Cola." According to a recent sur vey among girls this is what on ideal boy should possess: 1. Have a cor. 2. Be pleasant. 3. Have a car. 4. Be congenial. 5. Have a car. 6. Be a good listener. 7. Hove a car. P. S. Numbers 2, 4, and 6 may be omitted if the car has a radio. —Parson School Reporter. "You're the first girl I ever kissed, dearest," said the senior as he shifted the gears with his feet. Ho Hum! I wish I were a moment In my professor's class. For no matter how idle they are. They always seem to pass. —The Hi-Po. mm H. APOLOGY In the last issue of the Hilltop under the varsity basketball writeup, Harold Trentham's name was unintentionally omitted. We regret this over sight and offer our apologies to Harold, who was one of the leading players throughout the basketball season last year. Lions Play Davidson Frosh Friday The Mars Hill Lions basket- bailers left Friday for David son, where the Freshman basketball team of Davidson will play Mors Hill. The Davidsonians usually have a good and fast club and are expected to fight the Lions all the way. The Wildkittens will be led by the Peters brothers and Belk of the Belk Department Store. INTRAMURAL BASKETBALL The intramural basketball teams got under way with a "bang!" on Monday. Twelve teams are competing on the schedule, but so far only three gomes have been played. At the end of the regular schedule, the four leading teams will play among themselves to de cide the winner of the im tramural tournament. The games will continue to be played until December 12, and begin again after the holidays. There are eleven student teams and one faculty team. The members of the faculty who will play are: Cowan, S e b r e n, Kendall, Gardner, Howell, and King, with Coach Roberts managing the faculty. Tumblhtg The tumbling team, under the supervision of Mr. Sebren, began work this week and a successful season is expected. Mr. Sebren had hoped to give an exhibition before the Christ mas holidays, but because of crowded schedule arrange ments he has expressed doubt as to whether he will be able to do so. The lettermen that are back from last year are Capps, Wil liamson, Roberson, and Lan caster. The new men who are out are showing marked apti tude in pre-season workouts. Mr. Sebren, with an air of confidence, quotes, "Well, I don't have to worry about wins or losses, but there is that angle of the possibility of broken necks." Unquote. Don't let it worry you, boys. I believe (and you hope) that he is just joking. Thriller Ends 37-31 Trentham, Carr, And Hambright Lead Last Friday night the Mors Hill Lions, getting off to a fly ing start, defeated the Cham pion "Y" of Canton to the tune of 37 to 31. The game was tense and thrill - packed throughout, with the "Y" lead ing the Lions at half-time, 19 to 15. The Lions came back with a vengeance, however, in the second half to pull out in front and defeat the Champs by the score of 37 to 31. The game was fast and furious throughout, with Tren tham, Carr, and Hambright leading the way. Trentham led with 13 points, being followed closely by Hambright and Carr, who had 11 points each. Wilson, center for the "Y", was best for the losers with 12 points. Some of his goals come from beautiful long shots, which he tossed into the basket from all angles, making them look easy. The "Y" was leading the Lions for the greater part of the game, but the Mors Hill spirit prevailed and the Lions were on the long end of the'^ score at the end, after Tren-' tham, Carr, and Hambright ■ found the range. PATRONIZE OUR ADVERTISERS Lions Play Blanton December 13 December 13 will find the Lions fighting the strong Blanton Business College five from Asheville. Blan ton's usually prepares a good team and is expected to fight the Lions all the way. Between halves, Mr. Se bren will display his pyro technics — lighted Indian clubs to you guys and gals —which should prove most interesting. As he is a mas ter in the art of pyro technics, this will, no doubt, be one of the highlights of the evening. This, incidentally, is the second and last home game for the Lions before the Christmas holidays.
