Page 4. THE HILLTOP, MARS HILL COLLEGE, MARS HILL, NORTH CAROLINA. Apr. 15, Cupid's Beau Ho hum — s’cuse us for yawning but we’ve just con tracted an acute case of spring fever. Don’t feel like doing a thing but sit on the back of the Little Circle and watch the world go by. And maybe you don’t think we see plenty from here! Say, isn’t that— Caudell with Pruett? Glory (a), who’ll it be next, Charles? Oh, goodie! Spangler got a call down! Spangler got a call down! Bobby doesn’t mind, though. She says that people always seem closer when they’ve passed through troubles together! Do tell! What’s J. D. Pike doing up on Edna Moore Hill? Thought he went in strictly for Spilman! Wish he’d make up his mind be tween Carol and Bonnie and Martha Ann! Have you heard- Swicegood wants a date! And guess who with—none other than ex-S. P. of the week, George Green! There are a lot of red heads on the campus, but Mac Yelton thinks he has the neatest one—Lois Allen. We know some other guys who might dispute with you over that, Mac. Jack shields Fran from the cruel world by looking after her every night and Satur day, too—She never seems to get her Phil (ip). Jerry Dayton thinks Bobby is awfully sweet, she says, but she doesn’t trust him aft er Dark. Incidentally, just why did Bobby have to visit Asheville the Sunday Jerry went home? Joyce Allen was wearing a very pretty corsage last Sun day. Professor V. E. Wood of the Chemistry Department certainly has good taste. Speaking of corsages, did you get a load of the beaming faces and gorgeous corsages on our campus last Sunday?! Easter comes but once a year, etc. We hear that Pope and Leroy had a good time at her home last week-end. Well, what’s Hickory got that Mars Hill hasn’t, Leroy? Or would that be talking too much? Who was the darlin’ sol dier we saw Muriel (Flirt) Rimmer with last week-end? S. P. of the week: Curly Simpson. The Old Maid’s Club seems to have gone all out for Brunettes this week, and may we suggest that Mr. Simpson take advantage of this Special Proposition while it lasts. Congratulations go to Sac Newton for getting the quick est and slickest tan of any gal on our campus. Our deepest sympathies are extended to Rachel Yates for the loss of one W. C. Byrd to Uncle Samuel, Fort Bragg, U.S.A. P.S. You can cry on our managing editor’s shoul der. Ha! He ain’t particular. Did you see Betty Hinson last week with that goodlook ing soldier? Well—get this— that’s the guy she says she’s going to marry! Robert Waldrip (emphasis on the last syllable) talks one thing and does another. Did you see those lovely gar denias Trudy got for Easter? Well, that’s what we mean! Doris McKee is a lucky girl, we think. Orchids and Jim, all on the same day! Breath taking, ain’t it? And have you heard that Mert is going in for red heads? This week, anyway. Shh! Don’t tell anybody we told you, but we heard from reliable sources that Clar ence Stirewalt is Yvonne Lawing’s S.P.! Poor Aggie Davis! Quentin has gone to the Navy! Now she’ll get no more free cokes and ’shakes at the drug store! Our sympathies, dear. Stewart Heideck and Eve lyn (Melrosse) McLeod are constant companions lately. In the spring—y’ know. Well, well, there’s Cecil Morgan dating Betty Gil more! Cute couple, yes? Maybe Cecil is trying to worm his way back into Betty’s ole lady’s life. Could be. We hear that Charlie Ham- met is leaving soon for the army, and leaving his only love — Wilma Phelps — be hind. So sorry for you—both. And now girls, let us leave you this little bit of sad but true advice: A man’s heart may have a secret sanctuary where only one girl may abide, but it is full of little ante-rooms, which are seldom vacant!
