Page 4. THE HILLTOP, MARS HILL COLLEGE. MARS HILL, NORTH CAROLINA. ___ ^ - November 18, 1944.H Were Been Missing Yon At Sunday School V u u V j By Belle It’s here at last! That long- awaited Philomathian anniver sary, the big event of the year for Clio and Phi. There’ll be a lot of happy people (notice we don’t say couples) strolling down the hills from the various dorms tonight. We hear that each Phi will have two Clios on each arm to protect him from any invasion from outside interference — the “town boys’’ f’r instance. Carlos Cooper is dragging—and we do mean dragging—Margie (Ry-Krisp) Williams. You’ve wait ed a long time for this, haven’t you, boy? Calahoun Hill (s o m etimes called Ronald) is dating two of the glamour gals of ’44 tonight Mary Stone Bennett and Jean Walker Lamaar. Jimmy (President Emeritus) Taylor is bringing a Rowe of young ladies. That’s not such a bad Pill to swallow, is it, Jim? Turk Turbeville will have his hands (no, not arms) full to night with two red-heads on the string. Let’s hope they don’t get loose and start a fight. Or some thing. We overheard Don Thorne-in- the-flesh asking Jack Phillips to look after Goldie tonight. Said Jackson; “0. K., if you’ll shield my little Fran!’’ What’s up, gents? Sadie had her day last Satur day. This week Junior Hawkins has his. He’s dating the Presi dent s girl (Lib Jones to you ignoramusses) and Songbird Betty Rae Carter! Betty “Shorty” Fowler in formed Charles Billings that he’d better date her for anniversary on account of if he didn’t she’d climb up on a step ladder and knock his block off. Ott Boles will be a perfect wreck by the time this evening ends. We wonder if he didn’t make a huge mistake by dating up both Evelyn Brookshire and Maggie Runnion. Gene Silvers, campus heart- breaker (heavy sarcasm), must have started early! Way back at the beginning of school, in fact! He’s dating some of the best look ing Clios on the campus tonight. We notice that Bobbie Shope spent most of last week helping Cassanova Morgan Robinson find his four dates. We wonder why? Lucky (that Manley man with the fallen chest) is having a tough time trying to decide who will help him marshal. Time alone will tell . . . Bud Holland, we hope Polly gave her consent to the other ferns you’re escorting tonight. If not—well, we don’t want to see you tomorrow. Hunter has his bill more than filled for tonight; he’s dating Caroline Boyles and Kitty Grin- stead together and at once. Why so glum, chum? Could it be Jay Stinkie Keeter envies Carl Westmoreland ’cause he’s dating Jinx and Liza tonight? Mr. Keet er, we notice, got a cute little consolation prize in Peggy Chis- sion. Incidentally, ask Mr. West moreland why the Home Ec girls call him “Grappe” (pronounced “frap” as in “sap”). Cheerful Earful: We hear that Steve Horne is not only dating Miss Jane Joyner, but also Cokey Burrows, Thelma Deal and Bet Miller; All that beauty going to one man! This place sure is a 4-F’s dream town . . . All these females float ing around! Boyd McGuire says he’s new at this job, but he caught on quick enough to ask Beulah Hise, Esther Hollowell, and “Jo-Jo” Moody for dates. We have so much to be thank ful for this Thanksgiving—es pecially that J. C. Fagan isn’t twins and Joyce Benfield, triplets. If anyone has any suggestions as to any new initials which could be used in place of some old initials which we cannot use but which have the same initials as Slow Poke, and which initials were supposedly indispensable to the happiness and well-being of the rovers of this campus, will FIVE JOIN SPANISH CLUB The Spanish Club, headed by Daniel Corugedo, met in Spilman parlor Tuesday night, November 14 at which time five new mem bers were initiated.
