Page 4. Cupid's Beau By Belle We’re all dreaming of White Christmasesesesee — as Ronald Hill would put it. How can we buckle down to books with jingle bells ringing in our mind’s ears and snow balls landing squarely on various portions of our col lege-bred anatomy!! We’re sorry to say “goodby” to J. Martin Pegram this week. We’ll miss both you and the mouth, Jimmy. And while we’re on the subject—we want to say goodby to Westmoreland. Ther.e’ll be no Christmas “Carls” for us this year. Trudy is happy now! Anniver sary and reception are over and Bob has come back home—ain’t life grand? Don Hudson is spending his last few pre-Christmas days at Mars Hill just Moon-(ey)-ing around over Martha Ann. The funny thing is—she seems to like it! Sigsbee (some people annoy me) Miller has one super duper H. T.* The staff has discovered that “it” is our own Eunice Smith. Flash! Alice “Heartbreaker” Womble was last seen with a THE HILLTOP, MARS HILL COLLEGE, MARS HILL, NORTH CAROLINA. Seniors Defeat Juniors Sparked by a powerful Medlin- Phillips combination, a senior class quint turned back a hard- fighting junior aggregation, 24 16, in a cage bout Monday night that drew a record basketball turnout for the season. Supported vigorously by cheer ing underclassmen in the galleries, the juniors overcame a first quar ter lag to pull in front, 12-11, at the half, but were beaten down in the third period and the first part of the fourth, and were showing signs of a rally when the final whistle sounded. Owen Duck, junior team for ward, tied Boyce Medlin for indi vidual scoring honors. Both con tributed nine points to their teams’ scores. Jack Phillips, senior forward, trailed closely with eight points. Ronald Hill and Walton Con nelly, guards, completed the senior first string. Carl West moreland went in for Connelly in the last quarter. Completing the juniors’ start ing lineup were Landers, Keeter (2), and Robertson. Substitutes, in addition to Duck, were Gilliam, Teague and Boyles. Bum. You know—Mr. Schrum! We notice that Hester W. Con nelly really enjoyed helping Jerry Dayton light up her window for Reception last Saturday. Some times we wonder— We hear tell that Berkeley Ruiz had a date with Nell Hunter for the Eu anniversary—and now he’s decided he’d like to stretch it out to a year long affair. We wish Bo would stop Med lin’ around and decide where he’d rather be on week-ends—in Ashe ville or over at Melrose! Many spectators noticed James out Ruffin’ it up in the snow last week with Miss Clayton. She sure has a Jinx on him! Interested bystanders » still wonder who will win—Martalena or Benfield! They’re racing to see which one will date her H.T. first! Paul Lunsford seems to be quite happy lately with that sweet lil Southern Belle, Lorraine Mor gan. The chief topic of discussion this past week has been, “Don’t you think Mr. Wood would make a better Santa Claus than Mr. Lee would be?” Belle only wishes she could follow some of you would (n’t) be students home these next two weeks and get some real, honest- to-goodness low down on what goes on at your immediate home front. We know you’ll all spend your time profitably catching up on study and sleep, and come back after the holidays a re freshed group of eager, wide awake scholars. Till then—in our own original manner, we sin cerely wish for you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! Non Reception (Continued from Page 1) ing the serving of the refresh ments.
