Page 4. THE HILLTOP, MARS HILL COLLEGE, MARS HILL, NORTH CAROLINA. March 10, 194^ CUPID’S BEAU By Belle The students here certainly catch on quick, or so it seems. Already they’ve discovered that springtime in Mars Hill is the time for Love (question mark) to come along. This fact is witnessed by the couples one sees pairing off daily to join the ranks of the “already tried and tied.” We would hardly be surprised to see Bob Barnes stroll down the gravel toward the Science building with some Gertie now. Further proof that spring’s on the wing: Her man has come out of hibernation and again reigns supreme in his old habitat, the ampitheater (his only rival in this vicinity being that dead fish in the pool or hadn’t you noticed?) AND have you seen Duck (woman hater) Beam of late? He lost one heart and one class ring in the town of Mars Hill last week. Near Pet Anderson’s little home, we believe. Bob Allen evidently likes his own name. Or maybe it’s Bobbie Huff’s blond curls he loves. We enjoy seeing our cheer leaders strut their stuff at bas ketball games. Comments have been made on Neal Ellis’ excel lent jitterbugging out on the floor. A new club has been formed on our premises—The Happy Gross Bros. Members: Eunice, “Pinky,” and Alwayne. Object— to celebrate Sigsbee’s return from the war. It seems that the early touch of spring has “teched” Margia Gobble. Lyn is having a hard time making her behave like a lady. The staff dee-double-dares Pat Lancaster to tell Jean Walker who her H. T. is. Well, “Red”? “What are my chances of tak ing you to Fellowship tonight?” Wasn’t that a quaint way for Tom Ivester to ask his favorite, Jackie Rogers, for a date? And did you know that THE Louise Harris is simply dying to date Tommy!? We heard Oma Shew baring her soul to her fellow future homemakers in the Guild last Monday. Her topic: “My rosy future with John after the war.” Scenes Around Our Campus! Jean Joyner and her Charlie playing endlessly up and down Edna Moore Hill last week. Gene Glass stepping blindly into mud puddles around the frantically down to the Science building after the Clio and Non campus. Lamar and Tommy rushing elections. We couldn’t help com paring the expressions on their faces with those on a proud papa’s Ladies Home Journal in answer to an S.O.S. sent out by him. Dr. Moore coming over to the campus occasionally. A nice sight. Very nice. Mary Nichols throwing away her crutches. Did you see Pitt blushing Saturday night “Because” Ron nie came to her? We think that’s the sweetest story of the week. If you don’t know the full par ticulars, see T. W. Nelson. He was sitting there. “Many a lovely romance has been started within the portals of this very musical building,” giggled Forestine, as she settled down for another three-hour Boogie session with the window thrown suggestively open. Why can’t everybody have fun like Pijl and Jimmy? And why can’t Pill and Jimmy be quiet like everybody? We of the CII or middle-aged staff enjoyed the dabblings in dirt drummed up by the Cl’s, though we noted with interest that tlie authors of said column enjoyed mentioning themselves at least three times during the course of said column. Marie Willoughby: “I must like John, else I wouldn’t waste so much time with him.” By the by, if you have any strictly confidential matters you’d like exposed on this page just scratch it down and mail to “Belle,” Box 54, you-know-where, N. C. Which reminds us that it’s time for we (as Dot Bunting would say) to back out yawningly. ’Bye.
