i Sprinkle Scandals Scandalize Dean (Continued from Page 1) sters. Miss Biggers was imper sonated in the shrill falsetto of Ed Long. The morning following the show, all the participants were served with notices to appear in Miss Biggers’ office at a set time. After a brief but severe lecture from the Dean, these boys were handed proclamations of com plaint, done in due legal form: Dub Lane (emcee), Ed Long (Miss Biggers), Sigsbee Miller, (announcer and girl). Sonny Motgomery (inspector), Carring ton Baker (Sinatra), Neal Ellis, 'Rex Gravitte and Mac Harrell (Andrews Sisters), and Alton Harris, Willard Jordan, Albert Hodge, Rolen Bailey (band.) The text of the complaint:' “Whereas the boys of Sprinkle Dormitory have been guilty of neglect of duty in upholding the honor of the girls in Spilman Dormitory; and Whereas, said boys have maliciously slandered the girls of Spilman; and Where as, said boys have been guilty of discrimination against the girls of Spilman; and Whereas, said boys have been guilty of disre spect of the Dean of Women of Mars Hill College, causing her to blush with embarrassment, and lose much slep due to mental agony; and Whereas (Though Incidental and, Minor—and Not Too Much Concern of this Charge) the boys of Sprinkle have been guilty of publicly ridi culing Canup’s Comer (sponsor of the show). Now, therefore, I, the Dean of Women of Mars Hill College, hereby charge the boys of Sprinkle with d i s c r imiination against the girls of Spilman, and slander of the Dean of Women and Canup’s Corner; and Recom mend punishment to the limit of the law for said boys.” The “punishment” was duly carried out. Mr. Canup was pre sented with his ice-cream cone in a brief ceremony in his office. . THE UPAllinSHED. Thu Week’s Query: Why shouldn’t girls a)nd boys sit to gether in chapel as in classes? Hubert Humphrey; “I’m posi tive it would make everyone more attentive . . . but to whom? Mr. King: I should consider this question from three angles. First, music. You certainly don’t get a good musical effect by plac ing all the booming bass in the center, surrounded by the sweet melodious voices of the sopranos and altos. It throws the music off balance. Second, athletics. Think of the poor boys that are forced to spend so much of their time away from the campus on basketball By Cornelia trips. Think of what 30 minutes a day would do for their morale. Third, character. It would cer tainly boost chapel attendance to the extent that Miss Glass could throw away her chapel atten dance records. In conclusion, in the light of all these arguments. I’m agin it!” Ned Austin: “Well, why not?” Mr. McLeod: “O temporal O mores! Once there .was a respec table gulf fixed on this campus between those of the male and female persuasions. And now some would eliminate even the great divide in chapel. Is it pos sible that this revolutionary pro posal was suggested by the in- The incident bears promise of setting a new record for practical joking on the campus. Miss Big gers later confessed that she had consulted a lawyer in Marshall as to correct legal phraseology. She acknowledges the help also of Miss -Phyllis Ann Gentry, Miss Irene Glass, Mrs. John Wikle, Miss Margie Hart, and Assistant Dean King. Not included in the disburse ment of justice were Forrestine Snider, pianist, and J. T. Holland, control man. I FOR ALL YOUR NEEDS GO TO THE VARIETY SHOP Mar* Hill ...
