Dec. 13,1947 Buggs Recital Great Success On Monday evening:, December 1, ait 8:00 o’clock, the Music De partment of Mars Hill College presented in recital Miss Edith Bugg, soprano. Miss Bugg is a member of the music faculty. She was accompanied by Miss Lucille Sawyer, instructor in organ and piano. The recital prog:ram consisted of four major groups. The first group was “Old Italian Songs.” The second was a French soprano aria such as is usually sung by a single voice in an opera. The third group was a very dramatic “Song Cycle” of a woman’s life. It was composed by Schumann and con tained intricate piano parts. The concluding group was English, in cluding the very modern composi tion, “Death,” which is very diffi cult to interpret. The concluding number was a modem light fan tasy, “Strictly Germ-proof,” by John Sacco. The audience demanded two en cores. Thev were “Summertime,” by George Gershwin, and “Clouds,” which left everyone in a definite ethereal mood. The neiwly-curtained stage was decorated with red roses. Miss Bugg was elegant in a white gown decorated with gold sequins. She carried a corsage of roses presented by her voice students. Miss Sawyer was also in white. All, as they left the auditorium, know now why Miss Bugg has been in demand in New York, Cal ifornia, and Florida, by churches, radio stations, and solo concert. A reception for the entire fac ulty was held in Spilman Parlor immediately after the recital. Miss Bugg and her mother, Mrs. Nanie Bugg, and Miss Martha Biggers, comprised the receiving line. Mrs. Howell and girls of the Home Eco nomics Department served punch and cake. Qa4ft/pM4.
