Annual Christmas Programs
Y. W. A. Observes
Mission Week
The week of December 5-10 was
observed as annual Young Wom
en’s Auxiliary Week on Mars Hill
campus. The Auxiliary was re
sponsible for all Watch services
and all chapel programs during
this week.
Several missionaries home on
furlough and former missionaries
addressed the students in the daily
chapel services. Miss Alberta Stew
ard, dean of girls in the Baptist
College at Recife, Brazil, spoke in
Monday’s chapel on conditions in
Brazil and the great need for
workers there. Dr. Frank Lide,
member of the faculty of Shanghai
University, who is spending his
furlough at Wake Forest spoke on
Wednesday and Thursday. He re
viewed the unsettled political
status in China and stressed the
importance of greater missionary
effort. On the final day, Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Jones, former mission
aries to Brazil, delivered their
messages.
Each evening during the week.
Miss Laura Frances Snow, North
Carolina W.M.U. Field Worker,
taught a study course book, en
titled “Light of the Whole World.”
This study course proved exceed
ingly interesting and was attended
by numerous students.
The week was climaxed with a
candlelight church service Friday
night at 7:00 o’clock, at which
time the congregation was given
an opportunity to contribute to
the Lottie Moon Christmas offer
ing, an offering collected each
year for the support of Baptist
foreign missions.

The Call of Home
By Betty Sanders
The still frosted air,
The molten gray sky.
The smoke curls from chimneys.
Hint that Christmas is near.
The drag of every hour.
The bore of dusty books.
The weight of unwanted thought.
Cannot numb our festive cheer.
The smell of cedar lures us.
The candles weave enchantment.
The mistletoe is calling.
To home—far, far from here.

Since it appears that we will not be able to see the “real McCo'17-i
before Christmas holidays. The Hilltop staff has decided to try to taielse
all Florida and some Georgia and Louisiana students out of thetion
misery and show them what snow looks like. The beautiful whi'be c
stuff you view above was the answer to Mars Hill’s plea for a whiing,
