Observes Mission Week The week of December 5-10 was observed as annual Young Wom en’s Auxiliary Week on Mars Hill campus. The Auxiliary was re sponsible for all Watch services and all chapel programs during this week. Several missionaries home on furlough and former missionaries addressed the students in the daily chapel services. Miss Alberta Stew ard, dean of girls in the Baptist College at Recife, Brazil, spoke in Monday’s chapel on conditions in Brazil and the great need for workers there. Dr. Frank Lide, member of the faculty of Shanghai University, who is spending his furlough at Wake Forest spoke on Wednesday and Thursday. He re viewed the unsettled political status in China and stressed the importance of greater missionary effort. On the final day, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jones, former mission aries to Brazil, delivered their messages. Each evening during the week. Miss Laura Frances Snow, North Carolina W.M.U. Field Worker, taught a study course book, en titled “Light of the Whole World.” This study course proved exceed ingly interesting and was attended by numerous students. The week was climaxed with a candlelight church service Friday night at 7:00 o’clock, at which time the congregation was given an opportunity to contribute to the Lottie Moon Christmas offer ing, an offering collected each year for the support of Baptist foreign missions. MHC Dramateers Stage Dickens’ ‘Christmas Carol’ Apropos to the Christmas sea son, the dramateers presented C. W. Greenwood’s adaptation of Dickens’ Christmas Carol, Wed nesday, December 8., at 7 P. M. in the college auditorium. Herbert Gray served as student director. As reader. Miss Cowan furnished the connecting links between the nine staves. The characters were dressed in the conventional Brit ish costumes. STORE WHERE YOU WILL FIND CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS Gifts And Toys For All Members Of The Family Graft’s Candies MARS HILL NORTH CAROLINA Sunday, December 12 the Mars Hill College Glee Club joined the Asheville choirs and glee clubs in presenting Handel’s Messiah at the Asheville Civic Auditorium. Allen Brown of Mars Hill College was the tenor soloist for the program. Immediately after this concert a select group of Glee Club members journeyed to Oteen Hospital for Disabled Veterans to present a program which was broadcast through the hospital in the Protes tant chapel. Ed Getzman was guest solo violinist and for the carol program Ed Collins accompanied the group on the piano. This serv ice began at 8 P. M. The following Monday night the Glee Club with the two choral choirs, the string ensemble, and the college orchestra joined in pre senting a program of Christmas music in the Mars Hill Auditorium. The first half of the program was devoted to carols beginning with a French carol “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence.” The string ensemble accompanied the girls on three of the carols. The second part of the program was devoted to solos, groups and chorus. So loists for the program were Allen Brown and Dean Minton, tenors; Paul Barwick and Bill Stapleton, baritones; Gretchen Rufty and Barbara Morris, sopranos; and Margaret Lee and Martha Max well, mezzo-sopranos. A trio com posed of Valeria Wallace, Martha Kelly, and Betty Neighbors sang “Jesus, Jesus, Rest Your Head.” A duo, Barbara Morris and Ro- maine Brown, sang “A Merry Christmas.” The second half of the program consisted of selec tions from Handel’s Messiah. Tuesday, December 14 at 2:45 P. M. a selected group of the Glee Club went to Asheville to present a fifteen minute broadcast over radio station W.W.N.C. This pro gram was made up of Christmas music. Since it appears that we will not be able to see the “real McCo'17-i before Christmas holidays. The Hilltop staff has decided to try to taielse all Florida and some Georgia and Louisiana students out of thetion misery and show them what snow looks like. (The Editors.) uari — A. i Dormitories Give Christmas Parties Following a basketball game with Tusculum in the college gym nasium at 7:30 tonight, the girls are giving Christmas parties in their dormitories. Spilman has a long list of committees and is plan ning a varied program. After the program they will sing Christmas carols and serve refreshments. Huffman has planned to have a big Santa Claus to read letters from the girls. They have planned duets, solos and games to enter tain their guests, after which they will all sing carols. In Stroup Blenda Honeycutt will tell a Christmas story. After this, the girls will sing carols and serve refreshments. Edna Moore, planning games and refreshments, will also entertain its guests by singing carols. All the dorms have been decorated to carry out the Christmas spirit.
