I tried to tell him that his name should be spelled Abraham, but he said he liked Abrahem better. He must have thought I was an odd character because he never let me out of Ms sight dur ing the whole tour. He considered me very lucky to be a citizen of a country so magnificent as the United States. After I heard the troubles of his country, I thought so too. As one student said, “This is the only country in the world where you can win sixty-four dol lars by naming the language that starts with the letter ‘E’ and is spoken in England.” talking over our problems with one another we all profited. When I left that evening I was not a citizen of North Carolina any more. I was a World Citizen. As William Epstein, Senior Officer of the Department of Security Council Affairs, said, “The United Nations is not a gov ernment. It deals with govern ments. A decision of the General As;embly is only a suggestion re lying on the force of public opin ion to carry the suggestion out. The attitudes of the smaller na tions are but reflections of the attitudes of the Big Five. Only in the United Nations can the smaller nations have a chance to influence the world.” We listened carefully and ignorantly, drinking in as much as we could. We had a lot of ideas blasted, but we came out feeling much more broad-minded and a lot closer to one another.
