This is it, the one time during the year when your creative originality is allowed expression in a publica tion whose pages are usually re served for campus news and the views of the editorial staff. In bringing this, your literar}^ maga zine to you, we of the Hilltop unite in an effort to strengthen and encourage a talent which we believe to be among the most worthy of those which mankind possesses, that of self-expression through the medium of the writ ten language. The ability to write is a gift which few of us possess to any astounding degree. And yet, those of us who have little of it may place part of the blame upon our selves, for it has been truthfully said that good writing is one- tenth inspiration and nine-tenths perspiration. What talent we have must be nourished and strengthen ed while there is yet life with which to feed it, for with the death of the creative spirit will die all that is precious in learning, in cul ture, and in intellectual pursuit. To those of }mu whose thoughts and ideas appear within these pages, we say, “Well done!” To those who tried and failed, we say again, “Well done!” Our space is limited and our selection influenc ed in part by the necessity for va riety and campus interest, but no paper which came into our hands was without merit; the work we put into the process of selection was thoroughly enjoyable. Keep alive the urge to express yourself; you will never regret your efforts.
