White scored a total of 29 points, hitting on a total of 12 field goals and 5 free tosses. The Lions tok an early lead of 4-0 on quick baskets by Carroll Wright and Dave White. The Lions kept the lead until four minutes remained in the first quar ter when Bluefield managed to knot the score. The Lions were quick to regain a lead on the shoot ing of White and built up a half time margin of 11 points—43-32. 20 of these points were thrown in by White. In the second half the Lions came back to extend their lead to 51-36, and were in no danger of being caught for the remainder of the game, which ended 78-68. Leading the scoring for the Lions, along with White who end ed the night with a total of 29 points, was John Wright who spaded 14 points on 7 field goals. During the half the fans were entertained by the feats of the college tumbling team led by Jim my Morton. On December 13, the Lions took the long trip to the home of the eastern-most member of the con ference, Gardner-Webb. The Lions seemed to be bad off as the team suffered a 86-65 defeat to the Bulldogs. Leading the scoring for the Lions were White with 22 and Emerson Glenn with 16 points. Two of the Bulldog re serves seemed to give the Lions a fit as they scored 20 points each. These were Wright and Bridges. A main factor in the loss was the inability of the Lions to make good on their free tosses. For the night they made a total of 5 free tosses. G-W hit on 16. The Lions had 30 field goals while G-W made 35. Lees-McRae Wins Last Saturday night the Lions met a conference rival on the Lion home court. Lees-McRae took the contest on a 73-68 count. This was the second conference loss for the Lions and gave them a season record of 2 wins and 2 losses and a conference record of 1 win and 2 losses. At the end of the first half the Lions found themselves on the short end of a 28-38 score. John Wright with 24 points kept the Lions in the game in the first half and had it not been for his e.xcellent shooting the Lions would have been too far behind to make a contest of it. The Lions did much better i nthe second half led by the shooting of Wright and Dave White who had not been able to find the range for a point in the entire first half. Dave hit on 18 points in the last half. The margin was too much for the Lions to overcome and the final score ended 73-68 in favor of Lees-McRae. The Lions will get their chance tonight to revenge an earlier loss to the Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb. The tap-off will be at 8 P.M. tonight in McConnell gym. The probable starting quintet for the Lions will be Dave White and Gary Hancock at the guards, Raymond Earp at the center pole and Emerson Glenn and John Wright at the forward positions. Gardner-Webb will probably start Isaac and Beane at forwards, Beason at center, and Bridges and Wright at guards. In the first contest of the sea son between these two teams the Bulldogs walked away from the Lions in the closing minutes of the contest, to win the game 86- 65. Dave White led the scoring totals for the Lions with 22 points. Emerson Glenn contributed 16. Wright and Bridges led the Bull dogs with 20 each.
