The pageant has been operated dn 'Miss America" stan dards in which the judging (by outside, experienced judges ) involves a rating system where talent counts half of the ^cful points. "Miss Laurel" of 1974 will be featur ed in the 1974 issue cf the college year book. Worldly DINNER by Connie Montague Last Saturday night, Nov. 10, 1973 at 7:00 p.m., an in ternational dinner, sponsored by Presi dent Bently, was held for the Roman Gorski International Schol arship Fund ( this scholarship is for the sole purpose of foreign students ). There were 85 atten dants at the dinner, including the stu dents from Meurs Hill College who are in the International Club. Next time you see someone p«luting, point it out. Don't close your eyes. Have no fear, there is a new de partment on campus just for you. The Placement Office area in the Wren College Union. The Placement Office is headed by Mr. W.E. Gift, a re tired executive from Tennessee Eastman Co. Seminars will be held for the job- hunting graduate. The seminars will deal with how to ap ply for a job, what to be prepared for in a job interview, and where to begin look ing . The Society for the Advancement of Management is pre paring a mailing list of companies who need workers in the fields' related to Mars Hill College's degree areas. The main purpose of the Placement Of fice is to aid stu dents with contacts. Helping students find summer jobs is also an aid offered by the office as it fills it's role as the ca reer planning part of the College Counc- iling Center. Students meet in in dividual or small groupings, and. Miss Vesta Baughman, the director of the learning center says that since the begin ning of the year the center has progressed and that she is hope ful for a continuous progression of the center. The center is open from 9^.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday with weekend help if necessary. The MTP is a four year program with the bas ic core requirements of the B.A. degree. As stated in its pro posal, "the degree is designed as a train ing program for those students who wish to pursue careers as performers in musical comedy or opera." Upon completion of the degree the grad uate should then be able to pursue a ca reer in professional opera or musical the atre, probably an ap prenticeship (like an internship) with pay.
