BOARD APPROVES
WMHC to go FM
by Eric Garner
On Monday, Dec. 10
1973, the Communica
tion Board met and
acted on three maj cr
items. First was the
accepting of the 1974
-1975 budgets of the
four communications
tiedia on campus, VWHC
radio. Laurel, Caden
za, and Hilltop. All
Were roved and
forwarded to Presi
dent Bentley for fi
nal approval.
Next on the agenda
was the carry over of
previous discussion
on a proposal by Ern
ie Howard and Steve
Rushton to convert
WMHC (which has been
inactive thus far
this year) from a
carrier current Low
Power Broadcast sys
tem to a 10 watt FM
station. The propos
al was accepted unan
imously and the okay
given to proceed in
stalling FM equip-
ment and applying for
n license from the
Pederal Comirunica-
tions Commission.
Howard an d Rush tan
are spending their
mini-mester install
ing the new FM equip
ment vhich has been
acquired from several
sources. "WWNC gave
us a car t machine and
WKKE gave us a turn
table amd we have
funds for purchasing
the remainder of the
needed equipment,"
Howard said. Accord
ing to Rushton, "as
soon as the broadcast
begins, we will have
a crisp broadcast
range with a 10 mile
radius and weaker
signals out to a 15
mile radius. This
should help College-
Community relations
extensively."
Howard said that
the equipment will be
ready for operation
in a month but due to
the long period of
time it will take to
process our FCC ap
plication, "it will
be at least April be
fore we can go on the
air. Our main empha
sis is to shoot for a
powerful station be
ginning next fall."
NOTICE : All Lion
basketball games will
be at 7:30 regardless
of whatever is print
ed elsewhere. The
only exception to
this time will be on
Feb. 12 when the Lady
Lions will host Bre
vard at 6:00 and the
Varsity cagers will
play host to Presby
terian at 8:00.

January 14, 15, and

teams being chosen
first - come - first
served. The entry

buy a winner's pla
