Cast Set For
Final
Production
MARS HILL - The cast for two
French comedies, the final pro
duction of the 1973-74 season at
Mars Hill College, has been an
nounced by the play’s director,
C. Robert Jones, associate pro
fessor of speech and drama at the
Baptist school.
The Apollo of Bellac, a one-
act play by Jean Giraudoux,
and The Doctor in Spite of Him
self, reputed to be the loudest
and funniest of Moliere’s plays,
will be presented in the college’s
Owen Theatre May 3 & 4, with re
peat performances May 6 & 7.
Both of the plays are described
by director Jones as “raucous
comedy,” and he is planning to
use a simple set design charact
eristic of the 17th century corn-
media deir arte. Many of the cast
will do double duty, playing roles
in both productions.
In the Moliere play, James W.
Thomas, associate professor of
speech and drama and acting
department head, will play the
lead of Sganarelle. He will also
play the Chairman of the Board
in The Apollo of Bellac.
The female lead in the Moliere
production, Lucinde, Sganarelle’s
daugher, will be Marsha Holmes;
Sganarelle’s wife, Martine, will
be played by Debbie Rivers;
Geronte will be played by David
Covington, who will also play
the male lead of The Man in
Apollo; Monsieru Robert, Sgana
relle’s neighbor, will be played
by Stephen Harris, who will
also play the role of The Vice-
President in Apollo; Leandre,
Lucinde’s suitor, will be played
by Timmerman Walker, who is
also The President in Apollo;

In the Basement of Myers Lies
A rather unique sandwich shop
— better known as MYERS UN
DERGROUND. Funny, it doesn’t
look at all like a basement, more
like a parlor. If you haven’t
seen it, maybe you should drop
by sometime soon.
MU was born Octover 27, 1973,
our Homecoming. Although she
was open for service, the official
completion of her construction
was January 31, 1974. Designed
by Myers Hall council and led by
ju M. Keefe
fA u.News-73
'We’ve got to do something about this image of yours...”
the supervision of Loy Jenkins,
the $1500 UNDERGROUND was
underway. Actually over 50 stu
dents had something to do with
the building itself and thus many
of these volunteers are proud to
see the results of their labor.
In the fall of 1973, Danny Suggs
took charge of MU’s completion
and opening plans. However he
could not return this semester
and Jim Manchester was given
the responsibility as general
manager in January of this year.
Since then the UNDERGROUND
has been steadily progressing
under its continuous improve
ment plan which operates its
own budget. After paying off
the construction debt and many
other numerous bills, MU has
been able to function smoothly
and now runs under the leader
ship of three managerial depart
ments: the Administration,
Personnel, and Purchasing and
Sales. The new manager for
Myers Underground is Ernie
Howard who took Manchester’s
position April 15th.
Now many people have accus
ed MU of being much too ex
pensive for the “average hungry
student.” We realize this and
share the same disposition. Yet
we do not price the sandwiches
and little profit is made from
each order we serve. So we do
not want to break your pocket.
Recently, we were able to dis
tribute 10c discount tickets in
hopes of easing the price of a good
night out or of just your snack
time, because our duty is to serve
Mars Hill College with a decent
eating place since the “slop
shop” is closed. Our main function
is to make you un-hungry and to
be here when you cannot get in
to Asheville. If you really want
to know, MU can replace those
long trips to Asheville with just
as good food, less time and
more fun because we are equip
ped with a juke box, dating par
lors and lounging room for cards,
conversing or playing on your
guitar.
If you haven’t visited the UN
DERGROUND, please come
visit us anytime we are open and
use your discount ticket any
Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thurs
day. Also, if you have any sug
gestions that would make MU
more comfortable, more con
venient or whatever, let us know
— we’re here for you.
