PAGE TWO MARS HILL COLLEGE HILLTOP AUGUST 30, 1974 august .0. o O o O O 0,. ,o ,o OJ .o ,o It is With great pleasure that I ex tend a hearty and warm welcome to our new students for the year 1974-75. At the same time, it is with a deep sense of sa tisfaction that I welcome back to the campus, our returning students. One of the highlights of the year is that period of time when I can chat with you as to how the summer has gone, what your plans are for this academic year, and to share with you in the ex citement over the op portunities for this year. As many of you know, I have been President of Mars Hill College for eight years, and therefore, have had an opportunity on nine separate occa sions, to launch the fall semester. In all of the^e years, I have never seen a more enthusiastic, well prepared, cohe sive, group of young people. Perhaps this sense of enthusiasm can be attributed in part to our new Men tor Program, perhaps to the new flexible competence curricu lum, perhaps to the expectations of the fall football season; maybe it is because of the close rela tionship between stu dents, faculty, and administrators, or in truth, perhaps it is because all of these elements, plus many others combined, make Mars Hill College a very unique place to be. This will truly be a year of institu^ tional evolv^ent. We have stated, and hopefully reaffirmed in each of our lives, a recommitment to the basic Christian prin ciples which are the foundation stones of this institution; we have committed to a new curricular struc ture which makes Mars Hill College one of the most unique in stitutions in the United States; we have comprehensive statements of goals which should enable each of us to have an input in the develop ment of Mars Hill College. We, the students, faculty, administration, and •Staff, have a fantas tic opportunity ahead of us to cause Mars Hill College to be the prototype of the best that can be had in Christian higher education. Even as I welcome you to the campus, I challenge you to become con structively involved in the activities of your college, and to play an important role with the Hill top, the College U- nion Baord, Student Government Associa tion, the radio sta tion, Laurel, Caden za, and hundreds of other leadership po sitions . Sincerely, Fred B. Bentley President notice!
