Being a senior, my
diploma will have
"B. A. in Spanish"
written on it. Those
that have a double
major will have both
majors on theirs.What
about those of us who
have enough hours for
a minor? Why doesn't
our diploma or the
school acknowledge
the fact that we do
have enough hours?
The school recognizes
''concentrations" in a
subject, but that on
ly shows on a person's
transcript. All ap
plications for profes
sional jobs and grad
uate schools ask for
a college graduate's
maj or and minor.
The Department of
Modern Foreign Lan
guages recently sub
mitted a proposal to
the Curriculum Com
mittee asking that an
official
proved the proposal.
I think that more
of the departments at
Mars Hill College
should consider sub
mitting similar pro
posals i An official

Dear Editor,
After reading about
the co-editors elect
ed to head up next
year's HILLTOP, I was
appalled, further
more shocked and
otherwise dismayed!
What specifically up
set me is the under
handed , devious and
out of line way, ac
cording to Robert's
Rules of Order, in
which they were sei
ected. What is this
place receeding to?
During the confu
sion after the first
election, proceeding
to the second elec

of the electing board
were not allowed to
vote. Why is this?
The newly elected co
editors were allowed

all! What a farce!
It is amazing, in
most schools "known
talent" is encouraged
to participate, but
here, talented indi
viduals seem to be
discouraged by the
stronger powers. Jim
Baker is a very ta
lented, well-rounded,
intelligent indivi^-
dual. His is not be

highly beneficial to
the student body of

As a member of the

I deeply resent the
implications reflect
ed upon me as an in

tion of editors for
the 76-77 HILLTOP.
In the last issue of
the HILLTOP, the new
ly elected media
heads were announced
and an "explanation"
of the controversy
over HILLTOP editors
was discussed.
My resentment rises
from the distorted
view presented in the
article about the
Board's 'decision.
Present at the meet
ing which decided to
allow a new vote
based on the grounds
that Rex Best and Jon
Riddle had not voted,
though eligible as
members of the 75-76
Board, I can testify
that the issues were
not as clear-cut as
the article would
have one believe. The
article stated, "It
was decided by the
entire board that
their protest was
valid" and again, "It
should be stressed
that the entire board
agreed on each point
and it was the will
of the board that the
ballot be reconsi
dered."
The complaint or
"protest" I wish to
is against
the article and not
the issue, for it has
been decided. I re
sent the implications
of "entire board" for
it suggests not only
a majority, but a u-
nanimous decision.
There was no agree
ment upon any one
point connected with
the controversy.
