For those of us who are walking across the stage for our diploma, gradua tion has the excite ment and touch of sadness that a new year brings; the be ginning of a new era. Some people may be happy to be leaving Mars Hill and gradu ate, at last, while others are feeling nostalgic. We will eventually remember the good moments at Mars Hill; the bad ones will become blurred. Excited or nostal gic, it's time to move on. Movin' on to jobs, careers, graduate school, mar riage ,. .Life . I feel a mixture of tears and laughter. I have achieved most of my academic objec tives at Mars Hill. The quality of edu cation I have re ceived has been su perior. (I would re commend the Modern Foreign Languages De partment to anyone! ) I was interested in content and finding meaning and fulfill ment in learning, not a means for a living. My B. A. means very little on the job market right now, but it means a lot to me because I have done what I wanted to do and enjoyed it. Friends, Romans, countrymen, profes sors, comrades, co workers, et. al., a big thanks to every one. You 're beautiful! QUESTIONNAIRE. 2) No, because the Psychology Department does not have the e- quipment or material to fully prepare some one for a career in Psychology. 3) My attitudes have changed mostly in the areas of reli gion and sexual equal ity. continued from p. 1• 4) I wish that I had spread myself out to other departments and activities. By this I mean, 1 wish I could have had the opportunity to work with President Bently on the administrative aspect. Dr. Hoffman on the academic level, instead of spending my last three years only in the Student Development Office. 5) Yes, I wouldr Mars Hill offers the opportunity to learn within an almost per fect environment. All the student needs to do is to express an interest and the doors will open. Eric Garner: In answer to the questions that were asked, let me first say that to me, MHC's strongest point is its people. Without the people who care and work hard for what they believe in, this school would not be as strong a char acter builder as it is. MHC is to each person what they put into it and thank God a lot of people have put themselves on the line for her. The second strong est point is the Classroom Without Walls. Internships and extra-curricular activities are the strengths of a resume which put students from this school a- head of those with diplomas from big universities. If you thinking and writing which are going to help me in everything I do. The literature is outside of my ca reer interest in ad vertising but it has been positive food for thought and helped me in the ana lysis of myself, other things and people I'm involved with. I think it's the best major because it can get you more places, but to .each his own on this topic. haven't done so al ready, get involved. It's good for the- school and it'll pay off a lot more than you expect in the long run. The next question about my major is a tough one. I don't think very many peo ple are cut out to be English majors\ and even in my senior year I had doubts a- bout myself. The strongest point here is that there are courses in communica ting and critical I feel that Grading has changed most in my four years here. I have trouble (like most students and a lot of the faculty) in figuring out how I'm being evaluated in the Competence Curriculum. Maybe 10 years down the road this will be one of the best educational plans, but I can't help feeling that I lost some part of my education by being caught up in the transition of cur ricula. If. I could change one thing about my college career I'd redesign some of the required courses. Several of these courses have not and probably will not be of any help to me,yet I had to buy the books and attend class an3Tjay. Maybe someday, through the results of the 312 evaluation question naires fve filled out in the past four years, there will be constructive change in this area (with all due respect to Sir Kenneth Clark). If I had it to do all over again you'd better believe I'd be here at Mars Hill-I'd do it just ^Like I did it except I would The HILLTOP lis published (approximately every two weeks by the students at Mar? I leave Mars Hill hav ing no regrets except that I wish I had discovered Dickie as a freshman instead of waiting for my junior year. Finally, I'd like to thank a few people who have helped me get through college. First of all I'd like to thank Mrs. Godwin who helped me in my college career more than she'll ever know. My special thanks to Mr. Mahy, Dr. Hart, Dr. Ihrig and David Mathews for being "the very BEST". I'd like to thank Dr. Leininger for helping me to- question ev erything including the eternal question of whether the chair I'm sitting on is "real" or not.Lastly, I'd like to thank Dr. Schubert (Uncle Joe to all of us English majors)who has taught me that two wrongs never make a right but three do and the nine parts of speech: nouns, verbs, pro nouns, adjectives, adverbs, splitting infinitive headaches, dangling participant? conjectures, and pro positions (roll over, Chomsky). continued on p. 3 ('ear. editor becicy atone asst, editor.* susan shlrley advisor .John Campbell vol.
