Sharon Munden: 1) Top - notch and concerned faculty for the most part, and al so the size of the school. There are more opportunities for individual atten tion . 2) Yes. Strength of each individual department. Also, lo cation — beautiful Western North Caro lina. 3) My attitudes have changed in all four areas mentioned. 4) Absolutely no thing . 5) Yes,definitely. Tony Sapp; 1) The weakest point of this insti tution is the way the administration has every student under its thumb. All stu dents are afraid to initiate any kind of change. 2) Yes, only my major. The Math De partment and the Edu cation Department have given me a qual ified education. 3) Higher Educate tion, only an appar ent change. The schodl seems to be seeking more quali fied professors than ever before. 4) I Would see where every dollar went. I would also try to be more in formed about the col lege, as a whole. In my career, i was told to do something and I did It, out of fear, regardless! 5) NO! THE MARS HILL COLLEGE HILLTOP Alta Edwards: 1) The beautiful atmosphere for learn ing! The. mountains and the friendliness of the people(includ ing professors) ,-..,make an ideal place to learn—not just about academics, but about life. 3) My attitudes have changed about religion and sexual • equality. 4) I would have gotten involved more my freshman year. The saying, "You get out of something what you put in it" is very true. 5) Yes. Where else would I have met the people (espe cially David) that I love so much? Gary Crismond: 1) Its size. 2) Yes, the Math Department is a very strong department, especially consider ing its size. I would rate it about the best on campus. 3) My attitudes and opinions have changed somewhat toward reli gion and sexual equal ity, 4) I really can't think of anything. 5) Probably. I can't think of any place else I'd rather have been the four important years of my life, but I'm ready to move on! David Covington: 2) Yes. Because MHC has the best vo cal and music instruc tors in the Southeast. The instruction ig out of sincere con cern and the oppor tunities for experi ence are numerous. 3) My attitudes and opinions ^ave changed toward higher 'education and reli gion- 4) has been college that ^as changed me. been able to mature in many areas^ gain insight into the plan for my lifg^ work. 1 wish that i could have come to know and love more people. 5) Yes! Lisa FaZtin: 1) The smallness of the school and the mountains - good at mosphere. Its weak point may stem from its strong point— Mars Hill is small and very conserva tive and inhibits non-conforming beha vior and possibly ideas. At a larger school, one would have more exposure to diverse ideas and non- conforming behavior. Mars Hill is po litically apathetic; we seem to be in an ivory tower at times. 3) My attitude has changed about reli gion . 4) Study harder, be more involved in clubs. 5) Yes, but only for two years, then I would have trans ferred to a larger school. Carol Hardin:, 1) MHC's strongest point is the friendly spirit of the stu dents and faculty in general. I have found that when eyes meet at MHC a smile generally appears — even from a total s trahger. Another favorable point is the relative safety of the campus. As a rule, I have never been afraid to cross the campus at night. The faculty, as a whole, I would clas sify in two groups, the dedicated and the dead. Dr. Lenburg and Dr. Schubert are The Best as far as educators at MHC(that I have had). Then there was the class— I believe they called it Human Societies— the movies were excel lent, thank God! The professor was Dead! Mini-mester is a wonderful time. I have always dre^ed of studying what I pleased and got my chance when my inde pendent study was ap proved! The courses offered were great also. 2) My major is English education (4- 9)• Even though I would change the courses (delete 1/2 of the education block), the intern ship program is a 9^eat way to learn ^11 about teaching. Yes, I have recom mended our Education Department, as well as our English De partment . 3) I believe Mars Hill is pioneering in the fulfillment of the old idea of giv ing all people who desire a college edu cation a chance to succeed if they want to, i. e. can. Grades are necessary mea sures . Mars Hill's competency consolatLcn appears to be no dif ferent; people who study, succeed. Re ligion is a booming activity at MHC. MHC is making much pro gress towards sexual equality...but, who wants it? 4) If I could do it again,' I would de finitely take more history courses. I probably should have joined the choir, but I doubt if time would have permitted with my schedule. 5) YES, sooner! Bill Taylor: It is time. Sudden ly we are met face to face with the dark ened future - the time our childhood fantasies glorifies. Seniors, the inevit able departure from Mars Hill is near. Everyone reminisces. Surely, in the course of time we have spent here, something will bring a tear. Perhaps it will be the slop shop, the Campus Cor ner, at one time the ONLY eating place besides the cafeteria ...the old Hardware Store, where we bought our blocks to ■ hold up our disman tled bunk beds...per haps the old curvy road that led us past Spuds and the College Inn and made going to Asheville a real trip ...the dances in the dining hall ... the first time we walked through the unfin ished, 'unnamed Col lege Union and saw Belk at the end (.')... the old post office and our box—mates’ mail...ordering books in the old bookstore (now the New Begin ning and Religious Education Dept. ).,. the long building stages of Cornwell Hall...our exhausted Inquiry classes, and even worse, the dis appointing Human So ciety seminars and films Cl doubt these would bring any pleasant memories). On a personal note, I will say the most memorable day was that Saturday Sally Moffitt was found -an incident .which drew MHC and the community into an emotional and spiritual position that has not been e- qualed. Through the deaths of our various classmates ' we have been brought closer to the priceless life we have. The old hanging light-bulbs in Spil- man taught me a les son: In solitude and under adverse condi tions we can honestly evaluate ourselves. Surely the loneliness and quietness of "being on my own" ma tured me through some pain; the image of the cold light bulb is brought to mind - the many hours I stared at its dull ness and saw myself. Now the 'bulbs are gone and so is the slop shop and the Hardware store. And we've seen it all go, through mud'n all. Pretty soon we'll be gone, too. _ If I may use the word, I've matured and reshaped my character and at titudes because of you. It's been four of the most enjoy able, confusing, and bewildering years of my life. But they have been the most fulfil ling years over all. I'm grateful to be a part of this class and I will miss you all dearly...includ ing the underclassmen.
