This year, for the first time, the girls competed in a fall season where they posted a 3-2 record. One of these losses was to Appalachian State, who is con sidered the strongest competition the Lady Lions will face this year. Coach Hart felt that the fall season was very beneficial to her team. She is very optimistic about the season and says, “I’ve seen what these girls can do and just hope they can do it often.” She feels that they can improve last year’s record and that they should do well in the tourn ament, being better prepared and more experienced. The coach also commented that the future looks very good for tennis at mhc. More inquiries have been made about tennis scholarships and several talented players were expected for auditions held on March 18. MARS HILL COLLEGE TENNIS SCHEDULE respectively. Participating in his first year of tennis competition, numbers 1&2 will play together, and so on. Head coach Alex Robins was under standably cautious about predictions for the season. “We don’t have a lot of people coming back,” he said. “I’m not sure how well we’ll do. We’re going to have to work at it to be competitive.” An important part of any sport is the mental aspect. Paul Hibbett summed up the outlook for the tennis season: “If we use our heads, we’ll do all right. I believe we have the ability: tbe key will be if we play the smart matches of tennis we’re capable of.” 1978 Date Opponent March 21 Gardner-Webb April 4 UNC-Asheville April 5 Gardner-Webb April 8 Milligan April 11 UNC-Asheville April 13 Emory and Henry April 26 Warren-Wilson April 29 Milligan May 1 Warren-Wilson May 3 Emory and Henry Place Boiling Springs, N.C.
