Page Two, THE HILLTOP. March in 1P7P ISlerjrB& Dear Editor, We would like to address the article on Sheldon Greene and the other commuter Senators, Durryl Taylor and John Senechal. State- nients were made that we the, commuter Senators, need to turn our ettorts and energies to more meaningful things other than a lounge proposal. We would like to show for the record the following pro posals that we presented before the senate. Improvement in Informa tion proposals provided for a glass enclosed bulletin board for the col lege union and extended hours at the information center. Additional parking areas and designated spaces for all students have also been proposed. The commuter Senators have propoased that each Senator put in at least 5 hours of SGA-related work between each senate meeting. We also fought against buying a tranquilizer gun to “handle the stray dog problem. Although it did not directly concern the commuters, we strongly supported the purchase of new washers and dryers in order to up grade the washer and dryer situation on campus. Other upcoming projects include improving campus food services, improved study facilities, improve public relations with SGA, and optional meal requirements for on-campus students. Although Sheldon Greene and the other commuter Senators” have been criticized for supporting some of the proposals, we strong ly teel that our record can stand for itself. If you have any complaints, questions, or ideas on how we can improve the quality of life for all students at Mars Hill College, please contact us, the commuter senators, because our job is to serve vou the student. ^ Durryl Taylor Sheldon Greene John Senechal Dear Editor: Why must some people be so inconsiderate? I am speaking of those who smoke in the non smoking section of the cafeteria. My friends and I deliberately sit in the non-smoking area. Before we can finish our meal, though, we never fail to smell the stale polution. Sometimes we ask the smoker to put out his cigarette. Of course, some do not mind, but others make snide remarks or look incredible that we dare suggest such a thing as that to them. On several oc casions we have even brought the NO SMOKING sign next to the offender and watched in dis may as the person persists in his rude behavior. Many who in dulge in the nasty habit contend that they will extinguish their cigarettes if anyone asks them. They should not have to be tf however. I have always be^’ ed that a student in college tt llTi 'Op.v to read a sign with just words: NO SMOKING. > I hate the odor of tob3®ijj.p smoke, and I am also allergi^^’ ^ttn because I suffer from asthnia; jitomey sick if I smell T of literally get much of it. ‘'^•Janch '4 Many of us are getting tire^ Jrth, having to ask people to stf^-ter; out their cigarettes. Tilleji li.. of su soijje • * Jon V Tilley Wha frop ^ill ey Dear Editor, I am writing this letter to show my appreciation for the job the Commuter Senators have done. Since the election of the senators John Senechal, Sheldon Greene, and Durryl Taylor, there has been alot of work put forth involving much time and effort. The sen ators can only do so much with out the help from fellow commut er students. If anyone wishes to say something of a derogatory nature as to the efficiency of our commuter senators, where were you when they met last? Dear Students, In the last issue of THE HILL TOP, I wrote an editorial on the bookstore’s high prices and the fact that they did not buy back a brand new book because I had lost the receit. Since then I have been contacted by the book store. They offered to purchase the book back. It just goes to show that people do care. Thanks bookstore. I would also like to point out that if something is bugging you - write an editorial about it. The effort may be rewarded. Pi? ^ester^. XT David R. Byrd Sara LeFever Editor filUropi S.G.A.
