—Page Eight, THE HILLTOP, Thursday, May 5,1983- Madison Campaign Mars Hill College’s Madison Assur ance Campaign received a boost last week when Wachovia Bank and Trust announced a “lead” gift of $15,000 and R. D. Williams of Hendersonville pre sented the school with a $10,000 chal lenge gift. Wachovia executives Steve Fisher of Mars Hill and Herbert Buckner of Mar shall stated in announcing the gift that “Wachovia has a deep and abiding in terest in Mars Hill College and Madison County,” and wanted to do its part to insure that the college reaches its goal. Wachovia has supported the college in each of its previous fund raising cam paigns for buildings, and the two execu tives noted that the bank “has a special Summer Session: Reduced Rates Mars Hill College will hold two ses sions of summer school which will offer a variety of classes both on and off cam pus at half-tuition rates. Over 100 class es in academic disciplines ranging from Aesthetics to Social and Behavioral Sci ences will be offered during the two five- week sessions. The first term will meet May 30 - July 1, with registration held from 3 to 6 p.m. on campus in Chambers Gymnasium and at off-campus sites including Ashe ville, at Asheville High School’s Voca tional Building from 6 to 7 p.m.; in interest in seeing that the recent difficul ties encountered by the college are over come and that Mars Hill College re mains a strong and viable institution.” On the heels of the Wachovia an nouncement, R. D. Williams, a Madison County native and president of the World of Clothing store near Hender sonville, issued a challenge to the busi ness community of Madison County to match dollar for dollar, gifts up to $10,000. Mars Hill College president Dr. Fred Bentley, in acknowledging the challenge, noted that this will make gifts from local businesses doubly important. Dr. Bent ley also noted that as the mid-point of Burnsville at East Yancey Middle School from 6 to 7 p.m.; in Marion’s First Bap tist Church from 6 to 7 p.m.; in Waynes- ville at Tuscola High School’s Building A from 7 to 8 p.m.; and in Webster at Southwestern Community College’s Technical Building from 7 to 8 p.m. The second term of the summer ses sion will begin with registration on Mon day, July 4. Registration on campus will again be held in Chambers Gym from 3 to 6 p.m. Registration at off-campus sites will be held in Asheville at Asheville High’s Vocational Building from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; in Marion’s First Baptist Church from 7 to 8 p.m.; and on Tues day, July 5, at Brevard’s Elementary School from 6 to 7 p.m. The second term will end August 5. How To Say N*j To A Rapist the one-month campaign draws near, approximately one-half of the $200,000 goal had been reached. “We are extremely grateful for the response to our request for help from our neighbors in Madison County,” Dr. Bentley stated; “and for the volunteers who have spent their time and energy as sisting us in reaching our friends in the county.” The campaign will end Monday, May 16. Those wishing to make a contribu tion may contact any of the workers list ed in the News Record article published April 13; or they may contact the Office of Development at the college, telephone 689-1102. Students may take a maximum of 14 semester hours credit during the two terms, and in addition to the reduced rates, there is other financial aid availa ble. In the past year the flag corps has stepped forward and made itself known. Not only did they perform for half time football games but for basketball as well. New uniforms have also added more color and showmanship to the corps. Participating in the unit takes much hard work and dedication, but is also fun and exciting.
