The Univer
sal Language
Music. What is it? Is there a
purpose to it? Well, I know for
sure that it is universal. Every
known culture to man has some
form of music. Just imagine if
you were in a foreign country
and didn’t speak the language.
Ask someone to point out of a
bathroom, and they wouldn’t un^
derstand. However, if you said,
“Do you know who Michael Jack-
son is?-' or some other recording
star, then you would get an ex
cited response.
Music is so diverse. What ap
peals to me. might not appeal to
someone else. But there must
be something to please everyone
because of the range of music.
Rap, country, heavy metal, R &
B. soft rock, gospel, etc. But it
doesn’t stop there. It can still be
broken down into smaller
groups.
Music is a form of expression.
Sometimes it is simple and other
times it is complex. Yet it is an
important part of everyday life.
During last week’s Valentine’s
day music sweep in the cafeteria,
we ail saw just a little of the
power of music, if you want to
know my opinion on keeping a
broadcast going in the cafeteria,
it is very much in favor of the
addition. When the music plays,
we all seem a little more at ease
with one another. It make the
cafeteria a nicer place. I’ve no
ticed that I listen to the radio
quite a bit. It’s pleasing and a
way to say "I love you,” "I hate
you," "I don’t like, “ etc. There is
a positive note. If you can’t
speak the language or say what
you feel, play a song instead.
And why not keep music In the
cafeteria?

LET HIM MAKE IT BETTER
guest writer
Anton Checkhov once said,
"Any idiot can live through a cri-
sis-it’s day to day living that wears
you out." No truer words have
ever been spoken. How many
times have you been frustrated
enough with life that you've
wanted to change it somehow, or
maybe end it completely?
You’re not alone. Everyone
goes through these spells.
And how many times has your
life suddenly taken a turn for the
better? You may have seen a
friendly face. You may have seen
other people having fun. You may
have gotten a letter from a long-
lost friend. Anything! But some
thing has always turned that bad
spell around and made something
good happen.
God will do that for you.
No - Wait! Those of you who
want to stop reading now out of
fear of being "preached at," hang
around a while. Let me make a
couple of points first.
I am convinced that something
good always comes out of some
thing bad. It’s not always a no
ticeable good, but it does happen.
Good things happen to all people,
but they happen most especially
to people who follow Jesus Christ
and the God in Heaven. I don’t
expect all of you to understand
this. I just want to bring you to an

College*
Editor and campus.
Thank you to those saints who have
already read this letter and have ex
pressed their support and prayers to
me. I ask then that we give praise to
God and our Lord Jesus Christ
through our actions and prayers. If you
arewillingto help prepare for the week
of prayer write to me care of the Hill
top*, Box 1148-C. Additional copies of
this letter in its entirety can also be
gotten through the Hilltop.
What is the purpose of education
and more specifically what is the pur
pose of a Christian based education?
When I first considered making Mars
Hill College my place of learning I un
derstood the motto on the college
seal- PRO CHRISTO ADOLESNTl-
BUSOUE, "For Christ and For Youth."
I believed that was indeed the purpose
and guiding principle of the college.
Students, I call to you to be more
active and involved where God’s Spirit
needs your gifts. Also begin in earnest
prayer for the future of this college so
you will have a place for your children
to grow in Christ and to learn in Chris
tian love. For we are here but a short
while but we are the ones who can give
the most in return. For this is our col
lege and we will carry the memories
throughout eternity. And God will hold
us for what we do while here. If God
needs you to learn and grow spiritu
ally, do that. If God calls you to lead
others, do that. We are workers here
awareness of the options avail
able to you.
There are people hurting every
where. Some do eventually
buckle under never to rise again.
Some manage to somehow "get
by." Very many, however, hold
their heads high because they
have assurance of rest and of free
dom. Those people are no differ
ent that you. They have the same
problems and the same struggles.
The difference is in the way they
deal with these struggles. They
don’t try to solve their problems
themselves, instead, they pass
them on to God to solve. God
says in Matthew 11:28, "Come to
Me, all who are weary and heavy-
laden, and I will give you rest."
(NIV) The most difficult things I
have ever done was to trust God
enough to turn control of my life
over to Him, but since I have. I’ve
never known Him to fail.
Bad things happen to people
because we live in an imperfect
world. Don’t blame that on God -
we chose it. God merely abides
by our choice.
Next time you feel really down,
out of control or just a little mo
rose, talk to someone. Find out
how you can turn everything over
to God. He doesn’t promise to
make the road any easier, but the
load you carry will be so much
lighter, and the Company is out of
this world.
for Christ, and we must be worthy of
his help. Praise be to God that he
makes us worthy by the sacrifice of
Jesus Christ...
I ask that all the saints of God
join in a week of prayer the last
week of March, following Spring
Break. I ask that during that week
for the entire day starting from Sun
day the 22nd following dinner until
the following Sunday morning that
we would have at least three people
praying and interceding every hour
for our campus and our commu
nity. This invitation is open to any
one who would pray. Please begin
seeking God’s will for you to partic
ipate.
And then on Sunday morning let
us gather as one community, cen
tered in Christ alone, and praise
and worship together our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ and give thanks
and glory to God the Father who
loves us. I feel that God’s Spirit will
bless us if we are sincere.
I do not sign this letter because
I pray that you would consider
these words for Christ’s sake, not
mine, I will write as I hear back from
each of you and how the Spirit has
taught you. I pray also that the
Spirit will move some of you to
write as well, for we will win this
battle in the name of the Lord Jesus
Christ and by his blessing and
power.
In the Powerful and Holy
Name of Jesus Christ',
