Page 6 The Hilltop of Mars Hill College Baptists Defeat Methodists run By Erik Barlik Assistant to the Sports Information Director The recent rise of the MHC Lady Lion Volleyball program was again showcased at a recent home event. The ladies defeated Spartanburg-Methodist 3-0. While the excited crowd looked on, the Lions came up with an impressive rally to close out the Methodists 18-16 in the final game. Tracy Schoenfeld again looked impressive, having just come off a 50 assist night against conference foe Catawba. Natalie Davis also had an impressive night, with 26 kills and 17 digs at Catawba. Stephanie Maney also chipped in 15 kills at Catawba. Thursday, October 7,1993 j^rsday, Octobe Arts fc A Gal pAW PRINTS: Natalie Davis is making a considerable for the all-conference team. Her consistent hitting and defense have paved the way to many of the Lady Lion victories. Maybe the only mark against her is that she has not averaged more than one match (non-JV) per week. The future looks bright for the Lady Lions, and she definitely will be a part of it! By Erik Barlik Hilltop Sports Editor Have you ever been sitting around with absolutely nothing to do? Sure you have. Tired of homework? Sure you are. Just plain want to have fun? Yeah! Well there is a new breed of athlete here at Mars Hill. The athlete can be found in townhouse 101. Why? Because he has engaged in a sport more vicious than rugby, yet calmer than golf. What is this sport you ask? It is one of the following: Townhouse Football, Townhouse Baseball, Townhouse Hockey, Townhouse Wrestling, or Townhouse Trenchball. Who makes the rules for these games? Each combines an element of violence with the average rules of the game and mixed with harmlessness. Take Townhouse Baseball, for example. It can be played with a hackey sack and an empty 2-liter bottle of soda. Use the furniture for bases. Grab a friend to be the umpire, and then choose your teams. After a recent matchup, a sophomore (who chooses to go by “Edge”) stated that, “even though it looks violent, it can be quite fun.” He entered the game as a relief pitcher, and gave up only one or two hits. Another resident, Andrew Call, said that he liked baseball more than football, and that (about baseball), “you don’t have much time to aim.” Perhaps the instigator of all this nonsense, Hal Henn (The Golden Child), could explain the craziness better. “I love the smell of victory,” and the “Doghouse Rules,” were the violent quotes of John Lott and Hal. When interviewed, Anthony Aycock said, it’s akin, “to Brain-ceU Bungie Jumping.” Edge also echoed the sentiment. Would you like to meet any of these athletes in person? Call 6443.
