Sunday night I was in Meyers
dorm. I was in my boyfriends room
making hot chocolate, waiting for
the snow and watching a movie.
We were basically enjoying the last
night of the weekend together. As
we were laughing at the movie, just
down the hall a tragedy was
descovered. Around nine
o’clock we beared a comotion. I
dismissed it as a rush activity or just
a roudy group of guys. Not long
after that I went to the lobby. As I
walked through I heard wispers
from groups of people who had
gathered there. I minded my own
business and began to return to the
room. As I did I passed a police
woman. I was concerned but again
beleived it was probably a bunch of
guys who got out of hand.
As the night passed it began
time to leave. As we went to the
I was shocked at first as all
people, I wanted to know who was
it?,what happened? As the night
and next day passed rumors began
to fly, your typical college campus.
I began to think about this about
this event. How did it make me
feel?
Scared. Not for me but because this
young man had reached the point
where he felt he had no choice, no
help. I am scared because he had
gone this far without anyone
knowing. Why dosn’t the campus
have a hotline? If we do have a
hotline why is it not publicised
more? Why didn’t anyone pick up
on the signals? Must we wait untill
it is too late to do something?
Groups have been
meeting in the chapel and dorms to
discus the students feelings. I pray
for him. I pray for his friends and
family. I pray for those who are left
with this event to think about. Lets
not let it be too late again.

As an exchange student from
Korea, I want to talk about the
incident that a Japanese guy killed
himself. Istill can’t believe he
comited suicided. I think most
students know of the incident. I
don’t want to blame certain people
for his suicide because it is a little
bit of everyone’s fault, including
myself. I want to talk about the
problem of this community. Mars
Hill College. When I came here
for the first time I had a hard time
making friends because I could not
speak english very well and had a
hard time talking to people. I did
not want to go to the cafetaria for
the first month. I thought that
most of the students were very
conservative and didn’t care about
new people. Of course I know it
takes time for new students to
meet others. There are no new
people who do not try to adapt
themselves an to make friends.
Think of yourself when you go n^'*'
places and new countries! You
may be a little bit afraid and ups^^
if you can’t find anyone to talk
with.
The problems of new students
as well as international students
are not only there problems, but
are problems too. What makes ^
more upset is that most of the
students will have forgoten what
habened in a few weeks; as if
don’t have any problems
understanding each other.
