CROSSROADS-November, 1971-Page 3 Fr. John Bradley, President of BAC assists at the ribbon cutting of the new Snack Bar. New Hole For Haid In 1968, a college union was begun on our campus to provide social, recreational, and cultural activities for the students of Belmont Abbey and Sacred Heart Colleges. The Haid Gymnasium has been renovated to serve the purpose of the Union. The main floor has been divided into three parts: a theater and T. V. area, a lounge area, and a game area. The whole ground floor can also be used for large concerts. The decor for this area features natural brick walls with the lower portion covered with bright orange carpet. The windows have also been shaded with the same material. Last year the trustees of the College made it a priority to put a snack bar in the College Union. This year it is a reality, because of the efforts of alumni, friends, students, and the Carolina Coin Caterers Corporation; personnel of the latter manage the facility. The snack ba-r has a tavern motif, with dark paneled walls, carpeted floor, chandeliers, and wooden tables and chairs. There is a rear dining area which, except for antique green and gold walls, carries through the same tavern theme. Serving as a divider between the two areas is the College Union Director’s office. The union is open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. The snack bar, which is centrally air-conditioned, is open from 9 a.m. to i p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Over the next ten years it is anticipated that a new bookstore and game room will be added to the Union building.
