Timothy Returns Brother Timothy Fairwell, O.S.B., has recently been promoted to the position of Belmont Abbey Admissions Counselor for North Carolina. When asked, the Philadelphia-born native replied that he enjoyed working in people-orientated jobs, and that because people are the key factor in admissions, his new job would be especially gratifying. Concentrating his recruiting efforts throughout North Carolina, Brother Timothy hopes to place a particular emphasis on the high schools within Gaston and Mecklenburg counties. He feels, “The most important aspe t of my job will be in acting as a laison between local high schools, colleges and Belmont Abbey, and more-over to represent the institution at various functions.” The motive behind this special emphasis on North Carolina, and the Abbey’s immediately surrounding area, is the fact that within the past few years this area’s enrollment represen tation figures have tripled and as Brother Timothy explained, “We’d like to see this trend continue.” This, of course, has necessitated wider, more intense, local recruiting. (Several factors have caused this situation to arise. Primarily, there has been a recent nationwide trend for the college bound to attend institutions closer to their homes, (usually within a 500 mile radjus.) Con tributing to this is the fact that state aid programs have provided a greater incentive than ever for local, eligible students. Particular to our own situation is the increasing community awareness between Belmont Abbey and the surrounding area.
