’55--Dick McCluney is a drug salesman with Pfizer.
He and Jea^nie and their four children live in Virginia
Beach, Va. Congratulations to Eugene Kusterer, who
has been named director of the Charlotte Little
Theatre. He has been drama teacher at West Charlotte
High School.
’56--Rex (Bunny) Ros, his wife Carol Anne, and
daughter Kathleen, five and son, Brian, ten, are now
living in Greensboro, N.C. Don’t know what Bunny is
doing now, but would like to find out.
’58~Riley Skidmore has been promoted to plant
manager of the J.P. Stevens & Co. West Boylston plant
in Montgomery, Alabama, where he and Doris and
their two sons will live.
’59--Enjoyed the letter from Charlie Field, which
Father Cuthbert let me read. He is beginning his tenth
year as assistant professor and baseball coach at
Towson State College in Maryland, where he, Libby,
and their two children, Cathy, seven and Chuck, three
live. Joe Ladouceur is publisher of Fire News, Inc. in
Smithtown, New York, where he and Elizabeth and
their five children live. Pete Marchettl is a consultant
with McDonald-Douglas Automation Co. in New York.
’60- Congratulations and best wishes to Mary Etta
Kaylor Scott and Jan Antoniewlcz, who were married
last December in Bethany Presbyterian Church in
Graham, N.C. Jan is with Burlington Hosiery Com
pany, a division of Burlington Industries, as manager
of data processing. Craig Wilkes has joined First
National Bank of Asheboro as Vice President in charge
of Marketing.
’61-Steve Davis and Joe Withers are partners in the
CPA firm of Butler and Stowe in Gastonia.
’65-Art Prosser has been promoted to city executive
of First-Citizens Bank and "Trust Co. in Brevard, N.C.
He and Katherine have one daughter.
’67-Chuck Sullivan gave a reading of his poetry on
the Abbey campus on February 6, sponsored by the
English Department. Chuck’s first volume of poems,
_ Vanishing Species, was recently published by the Red
Clay Publishers and received very favorable reviews.
Tom Maguire came by for a visit in March. He is
marketing representative for McDonald-Douglas
Automation Co. in New York and he and Jane and Jean
Marie, one-and-a-half, live in Brooklyn.
’68—Gary Turner has been promoted to city
executive for First Union National Bank’s operations
in Kannapolis, N.C. and its Concord branch. Brian
Mulrenin has a yacht brokerage business with his
brother in Cape Cod.
’69-Thanks for your letter, Dick Bernard,
straightening me out about Rick Salem. Knowing how
versatile and the student that Rick is, I didn’t question
his adding to his already many accomplishments.
Sorry about the other, Rick. Some misguided person
sent me all that news. For the record, Rick is still a
bachelor and is practicing law in Tampa. Dick Bernard
is credit manager for Davidson’s, a chain of men’s
clothiers, in Roanoke, Virginia, where Becky (Mc
Cluney) is assistant librarian with the Roanoke City
Public Schools. John Murphy has been named Sanco
Corporation’s district representative in Atlanta, where
a Georgia district office has just opened. John and
Dorothy have one child. Congratulations and best
wishes to Elizabeth Lyon Miller and Ted Fraune, who
were married in Chatham Presbyterian Church,
Oxford, N.C., in January. Ted is employed by Cristex
Corporation. Congratulations to Bob Marshall on the
publication of his book. Bayonets and Roses, a com
prehensive pro-life political action guide.
’69-Ken Szyarto has been named Athletic Director at
St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel, N.J., where
he teaches Physical Education and Health and coaches
J.V. basketball. He and Gwen and one-year-old
Christopher live in Shrewsbury. Calvin Arrowood is a
partner in the CPA firm of Butler & Stowe in Gastonia.
’70-Congratulations and best wishes to Marcia Leigh
McGinnis and Dan Treece, who were married on
September 13 in First Baptist Church, Reidsville, N.C.
Dan is Director of Youth Ministry at First United
Methodist Church in Gastonia. Edward Dean Lawing
has been promoted to assistant cashier with Carolina
First National Bank in Hendersonville, N.C. He and
Ann have two daughters, Greta and Emily. Tom
Melichiorree and wife Kathy (Gowan, SHC ’71) have
opened Kathy’s Korner, an Italian sandwich shop, in
Wildwood, N. J. I hear it’s fantastic, so stop in when you
are in the area.
’71-Congratulations to Wanda and Joe Mertes on the
arrival of Mary Kathleen on February 8.
Congratulations and best wishes also to Emily Lucinda
Wilson and Loy Wayne Cannon, who were married last
June in Second Baptist Church in Mt. Holly. He is
employed by Duke Power Co. and they live in Stanley.
Jerry Cloninger stopped by for a short visit on March
22 when he was in Gastonia. Jerry and his wife Brenda
live in Smyrna, Georgia, and Jerry is a scientific glass
blower at Georgia Tech. Brian Noone teaches History
and coaches varsity basketball at St. John Vianney
High School in Holmdel, N.J. Congratulations on your
first-year record as head coach-16-9. Congratulations
and best wishes to Bob Dineen and Jeanine O’Conner,
who were married last September. Bob is with a
textile company. Brendan Soden is working long hours
with the Secret Service and has traveled to Egypt as
well as throughout the U.S.
’72-Jack Calaman is a graduate student in the Penn
State University MBA program. John Richford
received the M. Ed. in Counseling from William &
Mary last June. Employed by Middlesex County
Schools in Saluda, Virginia, he is elementary guidance
counselor and home-school coordinator.
Congratulations and best wishes to Martha Louise
Crooke and Kevin Hauser, who were married by
Father Bradley in Belmont Abbey Cathedral on March
20. Kevin is a Lieutenant in the Marine Corps and is
stationed in Beaufort, S.C. Jim Gordon is with
Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in New York and his
wife Mary Jane (Toolan, SHC ’71) teaches fourth grade
in Sayreville, N.J. Ted Eskildsen is living in Mt. Holly
and teaching and coaching basketball at St. Michael’s
in Gastonia. It was good to see J.P. Collins when he was
here with a group of high school students. J.P. is doing
an excellent job, and thank you, Vicky, for all the news
of the alumni you sent. Kevin Kirk has joined the
Hartford Insurance Group’s Atlanta regional office as
a group pension representative.
’73-Congratulations and best wishes to Karen
Dianne Matthews and Joe Lizotte, who were married
in November in Providence Baptist Church in
Charlotte. Joe is employed by the Fayetteville (N.C.)
Police Department Tactical Squad, where they are
living. Mike Miiier is with the William H. McGee Co. in
Philadelphia. He and Jan Comer of New Jersey will be
married on April 24. John Szyarto is teaching in grade
school in the Matawan (N.J.) Public School System.
Congratulations and best wishes to Mary Johnson and
Michael Powers, who were married last October. Mike
is a corrections officer in Long Island and Mary
teaches in grade school in New York City,
the Hospital Administration program, and is assistant
administrator at Hendersonville (N.C.) Hospital.
Congratulations and best wishes to Terri Sue Mullinax
and William Reid Long, who were married May 17 in
Olney Presbyterian Church in Gastonia. He is
manager of Kennedy’s Rexall Drug Store in Gastonia.
Willie Doscher is with the William H. McGee Co. in
Philadelphia. It was good to see Jay Briody when he
was down with a group of high school students. Jay is a
recruiter for the Abbey and doing an excellent job.
’75-Michael Walsh is an adjuster for Travelers In
surance Co. in Tallahassee, Florida. Grace DlSanto
gave a reading of her original poetry on campus on
February 6, sponsored by the English Department.
Grace is an award-winning poet in the North Carolina
Poetry Society and has recently published in Graffiti.
She has been invited to submit a collection of her
poems to the Peabody Institute of Music for symphonic
adaptation, and has been asked to join with a group of
American writers to translate into English the works of
contemporary Italian poets. Congratulations and best
wishes to Carol Ann Wedel and Robert Wilson
Hackney, who were married in St. John’s Baptist
Church in Charlotte the last of May; also to Jennifer
Ann Kieronski and John Joseph Almon, who were
married in Belmont Abbey Cathedral on February 14.
He is employed by Steak and Eggs in Charlotte, where
they live. Also to Sara Ellen Langdell and Michael
Stephen Hedrick, who were married May 17 ip St.
Thomas More Church in Chapel Hill, N.C. He is an
auditor at Triangle Motel there. Christian Antwl was
the principal speaker commemorating Black History
Week at Robeson Technical Institute in Lumberton,
N.C, He is the Manpower Coordinator and Evaluator
for the Lumber River Council of Governments.

Plans have been set for'
Bi-Centennial and
Centennial Musical
Events at Belmont Abbey
College.
Mr. Joseph Victor
Laderoute will perform a
Song Recital in the
Belmont Abbey
Cathedral on April 9,
1976, at 8:00 p.m. This
concert is the second
musical event in a series
of five to be held at the
Abbey in celebration of
the centennial an
niversary of the college
and monastery.
Mr. Laderoute will sing
works by Purcell, Bach,
Handel, Schubert,
Wagner, C. Franck,
Debussy and a
miscellaneous group of
English and American
songs.
Mr. Laderoute has a
solid musical
background. He plays
piano and organ and is a
member of the American
Guild of Organists,
holding dual membership
in both the Charlotte and
Gastonia Chapters. He
received his advanced
musical training at
Toronto Conservatory of
Music and at the Cin
cinnati College of Music.
He also studied under
Boris Goldovsky at the
New England Con
servatory in Boston,
Massachusetts.
Mr. Douglas Zeller of
Charlotte, will be the
accompanist.
The recital is open to
the public.
Then, on May 3, the
Belmont Abbey College, -
Community Chorus will
join with the Monroe
Community Chorus in a
presentation of Franz
Schubert’s Concert Mass
in G. Other works to be
heard on this occasion
are: Randall Thomp
son’s “Allelulia,” Gabriel
Faure’s ‘'Cantique de
Jean Racine,” Joseph
Clokey’s “Canticle of
Praise.”
Mr. Laderoute will
conduct this performance
to be held in the
Cathedral and Mr. Zeller
will be at the organ
console.
The concert will be
open to the public and
begin promptly at 8:00
p.m. There will be a
repeat performance with
Monroe Community
Chorus at Wingate
College on May loth.
