years as Secretary to
the President. Mr.
Whitener then recalled
with affection the years
Father Cuthbert Allen, O.
S. B., spent as President
of the College, inspiring
teacher, and esteemed
civic leader. Father
Cuthbert received as a
gift of appreciation a
television set.
Finally, to climax a
memorable evening, as
Mr. James Hunter of the
Board of Advisors read a
lengthy list of names of
the dozens of people who
worked diligently for the
Centennial Fund, Fr.
John Bradley presented
those present, with a
handshake and words of
thanks, beautiful leather-
bound volumes on the
American Revolution,
each embossed in gold
with the words “Belmont
Abbey College 1876-1976.”

Homecoming
October 1 & 2
Mr. George Wrenn,
President of Wrenn
Brothers, Inc. of
Charlotte has offered,
and the College has
gratefully accepted, the
services of the large
computer owned by the
Wrenn Brothers Cor
poration. This generous
gift will immediately
saved hundreds of dollars
for the administration
vhich has had for several
years to buy computer
services in Raleigh, and
the savings in time and
long distance telephone
charges will double the
benefits. Conversion to
the new system will
require study and
training over many
months. To begin the
process the College will
acquire an intermediate
speed terminal. Other
equipment will be leased
to facilitate the transfer
of information until
finally permanent in
stallations can be made
which will give the
College constant link-up
with the Computer in
Charlotte.
Mr. George Whitesides,
Vice President of Wrenn
Brothers, and Mr. Mike
Lee, who heads the
computer programming
department, have given
generously of their time
and expertise in recent
months as they have
worked with Abbey of
ficials ' to explore the
needs of the College.
Father Bradley,
realizing the unlimited
possibilities the new
service can provide, has
called upon heads of
departments to assess
their needs and to
cooperate in their efforts
to learn the technology
required to achieve
maximum efficiency. He
said, “Perhaps the
greatest benefit of all will
be the real chance in the
future to add computer
programming and data
processing courses for
our students who elect
majors in Accounting and
business administration.
I want Mr. Wrenn, Mr.
Whitesides, Mr. Lee, and
others to know how,'
grateful we are for this
large contribution which
is incalculable in its
value to the College.”
Mr. Wrenn has served
for some time on the
Board of Advisors, and he
recently was elected to
the new Board of
Trustees. He has
fostered, encouraged,
and promoted from its
inception the College’s
Distribution Manage
ment program.
