By MARY COOK ’38 - It was good to see Paul Mattem, his wife Mary and two children, Jady and James, when they visited the Abbey recently. He has been with Lederle Laboratories as a package designer for thirty years and he and his family (two other children, Paul junior and Richard) live in Pearl River, New York. Paul told us that Faison Spears is retired and living in Jessups, Maryland, but we failed to get his address. Does anyone know it? ’42 - Parry Downs visited the Abbey in June. He is a hospital psy. technician and he and his wife Carol and three children live in Richmond. ’57 - Dick Bain assumed the position of County Ad ministrator of York County, Virginia, on May 17, with an office at Yorktown. ’58 - Louis Seaman, his wife Jerry and three children, Louie junior, eleven, Diane, nine, and Christy five, visited the Abbey in July. It was the first time for Louis in nine years and it was great to see them. They were very disappointed Father Cuthbert was on vacation at that time. Louis is sales representative for Rexall Drugs and they live in Yakima, Washington. ’58 - Lt. Col. Joseph L. Perry, D.D.S. was recently certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics. Congratulations! Col. Perry and his wife and four children reside at Fort Eustis, Virginia, where he serves as Chief of Prosthetic Dentistry at the Tignor Army Dental Clinic. We are glad to hear that soon the Perry family will visit the Abbey. Col. Perry wrote: “I always remember my days there as being the happiest and most formative ones of my education.” ’60 - Monsignor John Tracy Ellis, who was bac calaureate preacher and received the Doctor of Humane Letters at Belmont Abbey College in 1960, was awarded the Delta Epsilon Sigma (National Honor Society, with a chapter on our campus) Medal at the annual meeting of the College and University Department, NCEA, in Philadelphia on February 7 and delivered the DES Lecture as the keynote address. ’61 - Congratulations to Nay Bergbom, who was promoted to assistant to the president of Morton Frozen Foods. He joined Morton as customer service supervisor in 1974 and prior to that was financial assistant to the divisional merchandising manager for B. Altman and Co. in New York City. ’62 - Congratulations to Amy Holland Smith, who was named “Woman of the Year” at the twenty-sixth Annual Community dinner held in Mt. Holly in April. Amy teaches at Ida Rankin Elementary School in Mt. Holly, where she and her husband J. P. (BAC’35 and also Business Manager at the Abbey) live. 62 - Congratulations to Amy Holland Smith, who was named “Woman of the Year” at the twenty-sixth an nual Community Dinner held in Mt. Holly in April. Amy teaches at Ida Rankin Elementary School in Mt. . Holly, where she and her husband, J. P. (BAC’35, and also Business Manager at the Abbey) live. ’67 - A1 Santoro, his wife Allison and their two children, Gina and Vince, stopped by the Abbey on their way to Al’s new duty station at the Naval Air Station in Dallas, Texas. A1 is a Lieutenant in the Navy. Congratulations to Paul Ford, Jr., who has been promoted to vice president by North Carolina National Bank in Greensboro. Paul is a commercial loan of ficer. He joined NCNB’s Charlotte office in 1969 as a credit analyst, transferring to Greensboro a year later as senior credit analyst, and later served as manager of the bank’s Greensboro Credit Department. He and his wife Louise and daughter Christie, three years old, live in Greensboro. ’71 - Congratulations to Mike Fitzsimmons, who has received the M. A. in History from UNC-Chapel Hill, vyhere he and Theresa have been living. ■ ’72 - Jack Calaman stopped by en route from Ft. jienning, Georgia to Towanda, Penna.
