The faculty member which Crossroads salutes in this issue has just been awarded the honor of “Coach of the Year” of District 26 of the N.A.I.A. for the ninth time! We wish to congratulate Mr. Stanley Dudko for this impressive achievement and wish him continued success in the future. His is indeed a very interesting success story which began back in Rowno, Poland where he was born in 1934. His earliest memories are still vivid with the tragedy which overtook his native country with the German invasion in World War II. His family was transported to a labor camp where conditions were severe but fortunately they managed to survive. After the war they were brought to the United States and found a home in Greenville, S. C. Dudko received his high school education there and became an American citizen. He served in the Army for two years and upon receiving his honorable discharge from the service he enrolled in Belmont Abbey College in 1956. As an Abbey student he excelled both in studies and in his favorite sport, soccer. He was Dean’s List student, named to “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities,” elected to Delta Epsilon Sigma honor society, and voted Captain of the varsity soccer squad and most valuable player in 1959. Upon completion of his A.B. degree at the Abbey, Stanley spent a semester at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the School of Business Administration. Then he was awarded a teaching fellowship in the Economics department of Auburn University where he earned his Master’s degree. He was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, an honor society for graduate students in the field of economics. While studying at Belmont Abbey, Stanley met a lovely Polish girl, Jascia Guryn, who was a student at Sacred Heart College. In 1962 they decided to marry and settle in Belmont. They noW'have two children, Roma and Michael. With his graduate degree in hand. Stanley began his teaching career at Charlotte Catholic High School and at Central Piedmont Com munity College.
