Abbey Hits 20-Win Mark
The Crusaders of Belmont
Abbey College have proved
their round ball abilities and
their die-hard spirit, as the
team has taken an acceptable
record of 4-4 and transformed it
into an impressive 20-7 showing.
If the Crusaders continue at the
rate at which they are now
playing, a NAIA District 26
play-off spot seems certain.
Head coach Bobby Hussey
praises the Crusaders’ ex
perienced play and the team’s
composure on the court in close
games. The Crusaders have
walked away with seven four-
point or less wins thus far this
season.
B.A.C.-63, Pfeiffer-78

Terniis ’79
Belmont Abbey College tennis
coach Mike Reidy is now
preparing his team for the
upcoming season which will be
kicked off in a match against
NAIA District 26 rival Gardner-
Webb on March 1.
After finishing last spring’s
season with a 10-6 record, the
Crusader court men appear to
Oe a strong contender for
■ strict honors. One factor
w lief will play an important
role in Belmont Abbey College’s
success will be the abilities of
freshmen Scott Davis and Kevin
Hurke. who currently hold fifth
and sixth-man positions among
the starters, to provide strong,
consistent play individually and
as the Crusaders’ newest
doubles team.
Familiar faces return to fill
the first four positions for the
Crusaders. Brothers T. J.
Reilly and Steve Reilly will be
back to support the first and
second chairs respectively and
perform as Belmont Abbey
College’s primary doubles
team.
Roger Martin will volley from
his third-man position and Andy
Doris, who has recovered from
a back injury which occurred
shortly after last season, will
claim the fourth seed. The
twosome of Martin and Doris'
will also be called upon during
doubles matches.
Coach Reidy gave this
evaluation of the season’s squad
as compared to last year’s
team.
“We still have the nucleus of
last year’s team in the Reilly
brothers, Martin and Doris. I
feel the difference in the two
teams will be felt from the fifth
and sixth positions. Also our
reserves, Dennis Noble, Herb
Hunter, Mike Murphy and
David Ledford, will be a factor
in this year’s squad as they push
the first six men in practice and
also perform in district matches
when called upon.’’
B.A.C. - 85, Livingstone - 83
The Crusaders established
their ability to win the close
games this season after this
heart-stopping victory. The

Greg Leslie added 12 points, and
Littlejohn netted 10.
