WOMAN'S CLUB SPONSORS
BUY AT HOME PROGRAM
The members of the Old Fort
Woman's Club demonstrated a lively
interest in its affairs by a large at
tendance on Friday afternoon.
The outstanding subject was the
Live at Home program, requested
by Governor Gardner.
Mrs. George Sandlin, the Club
president, also took up the subject
of "Buying at Home" and after a
favorable discussion, the members
pledged their support for a definite
program of buying at home.
New members voted on and added
to the club were Mrs. Ben Allison
and Mrs. B. J. Curtis.
It was decided by the club at this
meeting to celebrate Washington's
Birthday with a colonial party. Miss
Gertrude Dula was appointed chair
man of this benefit party, which will
be given in the club room on Febru
ary 22nd. The need of a supply room
for club property, used when serv
ing dinners and banquets, was dis
cussed and Mrs. Amos Crippen was
appointed as chairman of a commit
tee to locate a vacant room and
make plans for collection and ar
rangement. Several new members
were present at this meeting; also
Mrs. William Treverton of Marion,
who served the Old Fort Woman's
Club as its first president.

HI-Y CLUB FOR OLD FORT
TO BE ORGANIZED SOON
C. A. Witherspoon, secretary of
boys work of the State Y. M. C. A.,
visited the Old Fort High School
last week for the purpose of organ
izing a Hi-Y club at this place.
This club is a high school oragni
zation for the older boys of the
state, and is now found in more than
75 cities. The purpose of the club is
to create, maintain and extend
throughout the school high stand
ards of Christian character.
The twelve or more boys who met
in Old Fort for consideration of
such a club were found to be inter
ested and were glad to undertake
the organization and work of a Hi
Y club for Old Fort as soon as satis
factory leaders could be secured.
Merrill Kanipe was elected tempo
re rv chairman to carrv on and see
how early the work can be started.
It is believed at least fifteen boys
will be interested in joining as char
ter members.
The State Y. M. C. A. promotes
an older boys conference which is
made up principally of delegates
from the Hi-Y_ clubs of the state.
A few years ago the movement
brought together between 100 and
200 boys at such gatherings; of re
cent years 500 and oOO boys now
attend. The latter delegations us
ually go back to their respective
communities inspired to be more in
terested and helpful to the boys in
their communities.
The third phase of this statewide
program is the camping, and the
one in which Old Fort has become
especially and particularly interes
ted is the state camp for boys, loca
ted ten miles from this place. This
camp, while in its infancy, is already
attracting large numbersj of boys
from different parts of the statel C.
k-' A. Witherspoon, the director, states
that there were 126 boys from 31
cities in attendance last summer and
this number will probably be doub
led next summer. Additions, im
provements in equipment are now
being made with this larger number
in mind.

pening to the Landscape of Ameri
ca."

Seals.
