HAPPENINGS TWIN CITY Mr. and Mrs. Howard Pruden and son Bill, and Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Wilson spent Sunday in Norfolk and other points. Mrs. Loftin Moody entertained at two tables of bridge Thursday even ing at her home in Hamilton Street. Many vases of flpwers made the home most attractive. Miss Elmyra Jenkins was winner of high score prize, and Mrs. Joe Butts Dickens won low score prize. At the conclusion of the game the hostess served strawberry short cke and punch as refreshments. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Dickens, and Mrs. Joe Butts Dickens of Weldon, Mrs. Mort White, Miss Crawford, Miss Elmyra Jenkins and Mrs. Clarence Topping. Mrs. D. L. Wheeler entertained the Woman’s Club of Halifax Tuesday evening May 22 at her home in Bel mont. Mrs. T. F. Dickens is president and had charge of the meeting. The l rogram was on “Laundry,” and Mrs. Quintin Gregory made a talk on “The Difference Between Real and Man Made Silk” Mrs. Wheeler talked on “Fine Fabrics,” and Mrs. T. S. Dick ens on “Woolens,” all of which were instructive. After the program a so cial hour was enjoyed at which time games of “Mystery” were played. Then came the inspection of the flow er garden and poultry yard, etc., for which Mrs. Wheeler’s home is noted, it being the model home for "Better Homes Week. There were thirty-five present and the hostess served a sal ad course as refreshments. Misses Virgnia Forbes, Kate Brin son. Fanny Price, Franes McClary and Susan Womble were joint hostess es at party Thursday night May 22, a< the home of Mrs. B. J. Dunning on Roanoke Avenue, it being the occa sion to announce the engagement of Miss Pattie Edmonson to Mr. Herbert Taylor. The home was decorated in pink and white roses, carrying out a color scheme of pink and white. Eridge was played at five tables and after six progressions a candy jar was given to the high score winner. At the conclusion of the game heart shaped sandwiches were passed to each guest inside of which was the tell tale secret “Pattie and Herbert— Summer 1930.” A contest causing much merriment was then enjoyed, ‘Pinning the Hat on the Groom,’ dur ing the course of the game folding doors leading into the dining room were opened which revealed a table piled high with lovely gifts for the bride-elect, which were oper^d by Miss Edmondson and each one was graciously thanked by her for their gift. Frozen ice in the shape of roses and cakes iced with pink were served as refreshments. Those present were Misses Martha Hassell Martha Spivey Thelma Toler, Ruth Dean, Mattie Lee Taylor. Miss Edmondson is the attractive and popular daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John . T. Edmond son of Williamston, is a graduate of E. C. T. C., Greenville, N. C., and has been a member of the school fa culty here for several years. Mr. Tay lor is the son of Mrs. Mary N.
