TWIN CITY HAPPENINGS Mr. John Anderson of Guilford Col lege was the guest of friends here this week. Mrs. Marion Hudson and Mr. Mari on Hudson, Jr., spent the week-end in Norfolk, Va. Mr. Seth Parker of High Point. N. C.. spent several days here last week with friends. Misses Marjorie Lewter, Lula deary and Mary Cameron entertained si few friends at a party Thursday evening complimentary to their guests Misses Patricia Miller and Jacqueline Heel cf New’ Bern, and Miss Susan Krinson of Richmond. Porch danc ing and bridge were enjoyed and tea ana sandwicn.es were served. Mrs. Frank Hawley and son have returned from Christianburg, Va., where they spent the summer. Mrs. T. M. Jenkins has returned from a visit, to relatives in Newport News and Hampton, Va. Mrs. T. R. Manning is spending this week in Petersburg and Rich mond. Miss Ruth Transou was hostess to the Monday Night Bridge Club on August 18. Three tables for players were placed in the living room. High score prize for the evening was won by Mrs. Julian Allsbrook, a door stop. A salad course was served. Those making up the tables were Mesdamcs Hugh Camp, Howard Pruden, David Travnham, Julian Allsbrook, J. W. Toss, George Hayes, Carroll Wilson, W. C. Williams, R. P. Beckwith, Miss Ann Coleman, Miss Lucille Carlon and Mrs. Coleman of Selma, Ala. Miss Lillian Matthews entertained several of her friends at a party last Thursday evening at the home of her si-ster. Mrs. Oorgp Pappendick in rielmont. There were contests and games, after which pineapple sher bert. cake and mints were served. Gurley. -□ Solve “Kidnapping” Raleigh.—County officers believe they have solved the mystery of a woman being taken by three negroes from the car of Milton Rodgers, Har nett County youth, and spirited away to parts unknown to Milton.* There is information leading these officers to believe that the woman was a mulat t oof very bright color whom young Rodgers had picked up, and that her husband 6imply came and got her. All of which is denied by Rodgers and by the wife and husband thought to be involved. -n Where Is Etta Mae? Rutherfordton.—Officers of the county have been making a wide search for Etta Mae Crotts, 14-year old daughter of Jack C. Crotts. She left her home August 9th, wearing overall over a silk dress. She is des cribed as being about five feet tall, weighing 145 pounds, with dark brown hair, large brown eyes, dark com plexion and regular features. Attorney H. J. Borsje of Memphis pleaded an insurance case for the widow of J. E. Williams, winning the case and also the widow, whom he married. COURT NEWS Eugene Miller, white man of Rose mary, received a four months road sentence when he plead guilty of driv ing a car while intoxicated. Miller vas a member of the construction crew which is building the bridge across the Roanoke. Noah Carver, white man of Rose mary paid a fine of $25 and costs for being caught taking a drink of li quor. Paul Massey, white man of Roanoke Rapids plead guilty to the possession of liquor and stated that it belonged to Raymond Aeree and Hinton Fai son for whom he was working, both of whom have the reputation of be ing bootleggers and who are in jail awaiting to be tried on a like charge. W. T. He was taking a little drink when one of the minions of the law came along. The drink cost him «f25 and the costs of court. C. R. Long and A. R. Tant, white men of Roanoke Rapids, got six months vacation on the roads in which to rest up from the labors of their al leged occupation of operating a home blew plant and dispensary. Long plead guilty to the making and selling of the beverage while Tant admitted aiding and abetting in the enterprise. The men were arrested August 2nd at Deep Creek near Roanoke Rapids, wrien meir eagerness to build trade got them the wrong customers. They sold a stein of brew to Chief Dob bins and Harry House of Roanoke Ra pids. The officers, figuring there was more where that came from, in vestigated and discovered a quanti ty yeast and malt near the place. Acy Barnes pleaded guilty to as saulting John Vinson with a club and drew a six month sroad sentence. Barnes claims that Vinson cursed the former’s nine year old child. Both were white men of near Rosemary. A jury said that Edward Joyner, a young white man of Rosemary, was gurlty (jf carelessly and recklessly driving an automobile. The ease grew out of a collision between a delivery truck driven by Joyner and a car driv en by T. Zollicoffer, negro, several months ago about one mile from Rosemary. Keus ter, -n— Henry Clayton of Chicago pleaded | a quick trial of the speeding charge against him as he was to be married in an hour. He rushed out after pay ling a $50 fine.
