We loved .and trusted her and miss her smile more than w ecan tell. Her body sleeps beneath the sod but her soul is safe at home with God, where all his loved ones some time shall meet, and little children sit at Jesus’ feet. A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in our home Which never can be filled. Her loving, kind and gentle voice, I think sometimes I hear, But when I realize ’tis hushed, It seems ’tis more than I can bear. We loved you, dear, sweet mother, But we cannot call you back For the road that leads to Heaven Has no returning track. Sleep on now, in silence, dear mother, For on earth you will never wake. But we will look for your greeting As we reach the golden gate. Mrs. M. M. Moore and sisters. I had just finished reading in the morning paper all about the cyclone in Warren County, the curious antics of the wind and how the hurricane had done stunts seemingly without cause. I got in my automobile to ccme from Henderson to Roanoke Rapids. W’hen I got to Norilan, Warren County seemed to be quiet and peaceful. Nor lina was safe and sane, in fact it looked as if nothing unusual had hap pened in some time. At this point I turned and headed for Warrenton. About one mile out of Norilan on my right I saw a large bill board about eight feet high and eighteen to twenty feet long. All of a sudden this bill board began to raise straight up in the air. It just rose straight up from the ground with ease and accuracy and no one was anywhere near. When it had cleared its legs or stakes about two feet from the ground, the billboard laid itself genlty down, face up, or. the ground. Not a plank or a sup port was broken or hurt. Very little wind was blowing and I said to my self, what is the matter with old War ren ? I went on about a mile iurtner, on the same road. I saw a colored boy about ten years old riding a perfectly good mule, mule seemed to be of le gal age and steady. The boy was holding by a string in the top of a very large black paper band box. He was holding the box with his left hand and driving with his right hand. The macadam road was perfectly dry and level and no one was bothering. All at once a little gust of wind blew up and all four of the mules legs blew out from under him and he and the boy and the box came down broad side. For a while there was nothing higher than a foot from the ground, everything was flat and the wind passed on. ine Dig dox came up first then the boy and then the mule. The ten year old boy saw standing nearby a new pine stump, about a foot and a half in diameter, about two feet high and level across the top. The boy took the band box and the mule over to the stump. But while the boy was trying to get a better hold on the band box the mule got up on the stump. The last I saw of the picture the mule had all four feet on the stump. His outstretched head was facing du eSouth and his mouth was wide open. His tail was pointing due North and was straight up in the air. The mule looked like a self-appoint ed weather vane for all cyclones in Warren County. Meanwhile the boy was beating the mule in the stomach with the big paper band box. What is the matter with Warren? S. T. PEACE “Monte Carlo” Is a Gay-Time Romance With Plenty Melody Entertainment of the very richest, gayest types is promised audiences at the Peoples Theatre Wednesday and Thursday of next week. For Ernst Lubitsch’s farm-famed “Mont Carlo" is coming to town. “Monte Carlo" is the story of the fads and foibles of the wealthy mem bers of royalty who spend much of their time at the gaming tables of Monaco’s famous casino. Jeanette MacDonald, who was the romantic feminine lead in “The Love Parade" and “Let’s Go Native,” is here seen and heard as the sweet voiced countess who loses heavily at roulette and decides her only hope is a marriage with the affluent Claud Allister, a vacuum-brained Prince of her acquaintance. Allister is all for the match too, until Jack Buchanan, a glamorously amorous Count enters on the scene. Buchanan loves Jean ette the moment he sets eyes on her, but somehow' he can not effect a meet ing with her. And so he bribes her personal hair dresser to leave his job. Jack takes the place of the domestic minion and handles the shears and curling iron so well that Jeanette finds him indispensable. Comes the tim efor Jeanette to allow’ Allister to propose to her suc cessfully. Jack must do something to prevent thisj match. In order to clear his mind, seizes Jeanette and kisses her warmly. She likes it. But he is only the hair dresser to her. In the happy conclusion, however, Jack makes his true identity count for something. The settings for this picture are done in the grand manner of the re miniscent of “Lov»e Parade.” Miss MacDonald has 15 changes of cos tum, some of them we are told( right before your eyes. There is an abun dance of original and pleasing melo dies sung by Buchanan, Allister, Miss MacDonald and others. Lubitsch was the director of “The Love Parade.” Buchanan is the idol of the British musical stage.
