TWIN CITY HAPPENINGS Misses Margaret am! Ottley Cran well honored Miss Audrey and Clar ence Babcock with a bridge party at their home Thursday night. High score was won by Miss Virginia Belle Vincent, a box of stationery. A salad course was served at ten thirty. Those t laying were Misses Audrey Babooi k Ella Lee Taylor, Julia Crutchfield, Essie Matkins, Virginia Belle \in cent, Crichton Harris, and Elizabeth Wilson, James McNeil, Wallace and Clarence Babcock, Jimmy Beckwith, Butler Brown. Cyrus Kitchin. Jimmy McGee, Frances Cobb, Milton Harris, Graham Shell and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Speight. The N. C. C. W. Club was enter tained Tuesday evening by Mrs. Geo. Pappendick at her home on Belmont Road. Miss Annie Cherry, presided , over the business program. The main business decided on was that mem bers of the club should take orders for shrubbery. At the conclusion of business a social hour followed at which time anograms were enjoyed. Those answering roll call were Miss es Viola Glover, Hazel Cobb. Annie Cherry. Irene Gordon. Mrs. Hurley King, Mrs. A. L. Clark and Mrs. Moore. DEATHS Mr. F. P. Barnes, of Seaboard, N. passed away April 14th. 1931. He had lived among his many friends 74 years and 14 days and was a loving husband, a devoted father and a good Christian and had been a member of the Baptist Church for 00 years. His wife passed away ten years ago. Eight children survive: Mrs. Gurnie Rose, Mrs. Clifton Rose. Mrs. I.umie Clayton, Mrs. Jessie Flythe, C. J. Barnes, F. A. Barnes. Mrs. Bud die Hasty, Mrs. Willie Gage; IS grand children and 3 great-grand children; one sisteif, Mrs. William Harris, of Portsmouth. Va., three brothers, Mr. John Barnes. Mr. Jim mie Barnes, Mr. Boggie Barnes, all i f Seaboard. - Mrs. Nick Wray The death of Mrs. Nick Wray oc cured at her home near Yultare, N. C., April 3. Mrs. Wray, before her marriage was Miss Pink Moore. She was born March 2o. I860. She was a quiet and gentle woman and one whose greatest pleasure lay in service to her loved ones and her neighbors. She was a faithful wife and mother and her place can never be filled for she leaves to her family - a heritage rich in service. The funeral service was conducted at Shiloh Church, where she was a faithful member. Interment was made in Shiloh cemetery. The large crowd and the many beautiful floral tributes bore evidence of how much she was loved. .Miss Charity Elizabeth Sadler died suddenly last Thursday morning, .\pril 10th. at the home of Mrs. Mary Sadolr on Jackson Street. Miss Sad u r was a native of Hyde County, win re she had lived practically all l er life, but had spent the winters with relatives in Rosemary. She was eighty years old. a woman of many friends and of a high Christian char acter. She is survived by one sis ter. Miss Britt Anne Sadler, one ! rother, Mrs. W. D. Rapids High School there were 23 entered in the Commercial District contest. For first year short hand, entrants were: Louise Brown, Yergilia Lyerly, Ruby ShoR. Susie W|iggs. Second year ;'hort hand, Audrey Byrd. Annie Mae Odell and I.ucillo Hodges. Typing entries were divided into three class <•?: ('lass A. for first year students: Evelyn Johnson, Ella Brown, Paul Matthews, Virginia Belle Vincent and \ irginia Grant; Class B, for second vonr students: Ruby Shell, Annie Mae O’Dell, Miriam Hudson, Mar garet Anderson and Julia Crutchfield; and Class D for third year students end alumni: Frances Shearin. Marga ret Cranwell, Margie Collier, Eula Crumpler and Etta Mincher. Frances Shearin, with 64 words per minute and Evelyn Johnson with 45 words per minute made highest speed in tiicir respective classes. Those who will represent our school at Chapel Hill on May 2 are: Evelyn Johnson from Class D, Frances Shearin, Mar gie Collier and Margaret Cranwell, who made an average of 54 words per minute. TALK ON HIGH IDEALS Mrs. W. L. Long gave a very in teresting talk to 8-1, Miss Mary B. Cannon’s class, Tuesday morning dur ing the home room period set aside for character training. She encour aged the boys and girls to have high ideals and standards and to count it an honor and privilege to live up to them. Edward Harrell Pres. W. F. Student Body Edward T. Harrell, son of Rev. and Mrs. E. J. Harrell, a former pastor of Rosemary Bapttlst Church, was on April 20th elected president of the student body of Wake Forest col lege, surviving from a field of five candidates. Ed has represented the college from time to time in oratori cal contests and is president of the dramatic club. Under his picture in the Mars Hill College Annual of 1928 were the words: Dan Webster Has Nothing on Ed. He will be a senior .ii the law school next . ear and has j made a good record at Wake torest, havmg been chosen to membership this year in the Golden Hough, local honor society, which places a pre mium on scholarship leadership and chaacter, and he is also a member of the college quartet.
