ALL STARS DROP ONE AND WIN ONE LAST WEEK HENDERSON PESTS LOCALS — LAWRENCEVILLE LOSES The Industrial League All Stars lost to the Henderson Gamecocks last Saturday at Simons Park to the tune of 6-0. The Pidemont League outfit earned only one run off of “Lefty” Carroll, star southpaw from Roanoke Mills, but errors by his team mates let the visitors count five more tallies to make the count six and nothing. Carroll, with Outland catching, pitched a steady and cool game and during the nine innings of rainy play plainly had the League outfit wor ried by his southpaw slants. Jackson and Marshlander bitched for the vis itors and only four blows were gath ered off of their delivery. Knowles got two, Kimrey one, and Prince one. The only two that could really be counted as a base knock was Kim rey’s line drive over second base and Knowles hard hit liner to left field, both blows went for singles. Outside of this the All-Stars had no chance to score. Khadot led the Gamecock’s hitting with three out of four. The crowd was just not there, all afternoon the rain had been coming down, manager Clyde Liske was all ready to call it off when word was forwarded from Henderson that the team was already on the way so the contest was play ed. It marked the last exhibition con test for Henderson before the Pied mont League opens. They are eliminated this year, as they lost their first game [to tne Jax. — LEAGUE CHATTER After June, when the All-Stars start their regular season the Twin Cities should be represented by one of the fastest baseball clubs in the State in the way of amateur baseball players. Under the proper coaching and management they will go a long ways, without this it will not be much. The game Saturday with Hen derson was a long ways from being the kind of team we should be able to put out. Team work is essential in any game. “Lefty” Carroll should be congratu lated on the nice game he worked out Saturday. There is only one fault with “Lefty” pitching and many fans will agree with us: Carroll waits too long between making his deliveries. We are not knocking you, Lefty, but lets make it a trifle faster on the pitches. And that reminds us: Knowles and Kimrey should get together on this infield job. Two men cannot get one ball at the same time. Drummond, for 12 years factory physician at the Ford Motor Co., Detroit, who was retained to ex pmine this formula. “At this season of the year, especially, people who are in a run-down condition, due to simple anemia, thin, watery Mood, poor digestion or elimination, should benefit richly from the Sargon treat ment.” Dr. Drummond’s straightforward endorsement of Sargon is typical of the unstinted praise it has received from scores of other outstanding physicians and explains why Sargon is having the largest sale of any tonic medicine of its kind in the world today. Jimmy Teague who happens to be Hendersons manager had a nice word to say about Russell Birdsong who holds down the hot corner for the Bascos. In excellent weather they played a similar game. The Jackets reached the Tarboro hurlers, Jenkins and Lewis for ten hits. James Womble and Fleetwood Sulllivan came out of their hitting slumps and did very good work at the plate, Womble got four safeties out of five trips to bat which con sisted of two singles, a double and a triple. Sullivan was next with two singles and a double. The infield de partment played errorless ball the complete game, but Pridgen, right fielder made two errors at his post. Colon Womble pitched the game and it was his third Conference win with no losses. The Tarboro Tar Babies reached the Snout for six hits in 9 innings at bat. Womble walked two men and struck out an even dozen. JAX LOSE THRILLER Greenville Greenies Stop Yellow Jackets Winning Streak In Ten Inning Game The Greenville Greenies defeated the Yellow Jackets 4 to 3 in a close 10 inning game down in Greenville last Tuesday. The Yellow Jax were just a little bit too cocky and they did’nt tealize they were in a ball game un tli it v/ftL too late. The game was featured by bone head plays and the Jackets went into a real slump for the first time this season. The Jackets had won five games and had defeated Greenville previ ously 9 to 4, but Greenville turned the tables on them and this game proved to be the Greenies first Con ference win. The Yellow Jax had 5 men who were caught napping on ihe bases and put out. These alone would have brought in enough runs lo win the game. Lefty Starkes went out of the box in the third inning af ter Greenville had scored 3 runs. Lef ty suffered with an injured hand and was unable to continue playing. He was relieved by James McNeil who pitched shut out ball until the 10th when with a walk, a stolen base and a hit they scored and broke the 3-all deadlock to win the game. Roanoke Rapids scored in the opening inning but when the third inning loomed up the Greenies were leading 3-1. The Jax trailed behind until the lucky seventh. Sullivan came to bat and struck out. Matthews and J. Womble the next two up got on and then C. Womble doubled to tie the score. Colon, however, was caught napping on second and joined the list of six nappers. The score remained a tie until the last half of the 10th at the beginning of the tenth with C. Womble on third and Hardison on second McNeil tried to run a squeeze play and score Colon, but he hit in to a double play and it closed up our last scoring chance. The next tw obatters up for Greenville got out, then one walked and the next hit a fluke single putting a man on first and second. The next man up sing led and broke up the game. Old Fellow, we want you to read the following as you wipe off your long, gray beard, we want you to stop and muse over it, then drink your morning dope and look over it again. * What words of praise you have in your ancient system for the High School Yellow Jacket baseball team, don't keep it penned up on my account. I did crawl you about tne football team, but in regard to the present baseball, team I. heartily agree with you. It’s the best team that ever tossed the old white pill around for the Black and Gold. They can hit, they can field and they play heads up baseball, thanks to Coach Hoyle. So scratch your head with your crutch, Old Timer and put me on file as saying the above. But, re member, its baseball that we are talking about. NOTICE TO TAXPAYERS OF HALIFAX COUNTY The county tax books for the year 1930 have been in the hands of tax collectors since October 1, 1930.
