Local Boys Officers In Scholarship Frat At N. C. State College Raleigh, June 4.—Six outstanding students of North Carolina State Col lege have been initiated into the Pine Burr honorary scholarship fraterni ty* Newly elected members are J. W. Southerland of Goldsboro, Mary Jo Swicegood of Spencer, Maude Schaub of Raleigh, H. B. James of Oakboro, S. B. Satterwhite of Oxford and H. C. Yelverton of Fremont. Officers elected for next year are: C. E. Brake of Rocky Mount, presi dent; C. N. Cone, Greensboro, vice president; Mary Jo Swicegood, secre tary; H. C. YelverUn, ertasurer; Pro fessor A. M. Fountain, historian and E. L. Cloyd, dean of students, as chaplain. New officers succeed W. T. Mast of Valle Cricis, president, W. ti. Brake, Rocky Mount, Vice president; J. B. Gurley secretary and R. G. Vick treasurer, both of Rosemary. To be selected for this society, a student must have never failed on a college course. J. B. Gurley will also be commis sioned second lieutenant in the U. S. officers Reserve Corps. Chadwick - Barrow Wedding Wednesday A simple but very impressive wed ding took place Wednesday morning at All Saints Church, when Miss Mar garet Barrow became the bride of Mr. Willard Chadwick, of New York. Rev. J. N .Bynum, pastor of the bride, of ficiated, the ring ceremony being used. Lovely music was rendered be fore and during the ceremony by Miss Mary Traynham Wyche. To the strains of Lohengrin’s wedding march the groom entered the church from the chair room. The bride entered with her sister, Miss Constance Bar row. She carried a corsage of sweet peas and delphinium. She was met at the altar by the groom and the vows were taken. The Church was beautifully deco rated. The bride was lovely, dressed in a grey ensemble. She is the dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. K. H. Barrow and has lived here for several years. She has, for the last year and a half been living in New Jersey and New York. Mr. Chadwick is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. E. Chadwick of Providence, R. I. He holds a respon sible position with the Lehigh Valley Railroad. Mr. and Mrs. Chadwick left on the ten o’clock train for points North. They will make their home in Eliza beth, N. J. TWIN CITY HAPPENINGS Cecil Pendleton is spending some time here with relatives. Miss Betty Gray Long has return ed home from St. Mary’s College. Miss Ann Coleman is spending some time here with her sister, Mrs. Hugh Camp. Miss Eloise Eubank, who has been a student at Blacksburg College, has returned home for the summer. Rev. and Mrs. A. H. Eubank and Children of Blacksburg, Va., spent Tuesday and Wednesday here as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Eu bank. Msis Sara Elizabeth Jenkins ar uved Tuesday from Meredith College. Rev. and Mrs. D. M. Sharpe are visiting relatives in Greensboro, N. C., and attending the graduating ex ercises at Greensboro College, where their daughter, Miss Frances Sharpe, ip a member of the graduating class. Miss Lillian Belle Jenkins, who has been a student at Meredith College for the past year has returned home for the summer. Mrs. Jimmie Young of Richmond, was the guest last week of her sister, Mrs. J. M. Jackson. She was accom panied on her return to Richmond by Miss Virginia Jackson. Mrs. Frances Patterson and Miss Katherine Jackson spent the week end in Richmond, with Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Young. Mrs. Frank Kemp was hostess on Wednesday afternoon of last week to the Contract Club. Roses were used for decorations. There were 3 tables for playing. High score prize was won by Mrs. Howard Pruden, who was given linen towels. A sweet course was served at 5:00 o’clock. Those playing were: Mesdames Sid ney Bounds, Clarence Grimmer, Frank Wilson, Cooper Grizzard, Will Dean, Frank Nash, Pendleton Grizzard, Da vid Traynham, Octavius Griffin, Geo. Hayes, Hugh Camp and Howard Pru den. Evelyn Marie Smith, daughter of Mrs. Lizzie Smith, entertained sever al of her little friends last Friday afternoon, May 29, from 3 until 6 o’clock, it being her sixth birthday. She was the recipient of many gifts. Games were played after which can dies, cake, cream and lemonade were served to the following: Helen and Pauline Morris, Myrtle and Nora Ca hoon, Alice Garner, Lillian and Gladys Morris, Edna Johnson, Arnette Van Dyke, Lula May Floyd, Isabel Cum mings, Mary Sanders and Naomi Hudson. H. MATKINS > ROSEMARY, North Carolina Mrs. T. W. Wafford spent several days last week at Guilford College, where she attended the graduating exercises. Her daughter Miss Edna Wofford, being a member of the gra duating class. They returned home Sunday. Friday afternoon of last week the members of the N. C. C. W. Club sur prised Miss Reba Rhea, bride-elect with a kitchen shower. The party was held in the hospital wheie Miss Rhea was a patient. She received many useful gifts which were pre sented in a unique manner. Heart shaped ice cream, cake and rosebud mints were served for refreshments. Those enjoying this affair were: Miss Margaret Chapman, Miss Annie Cher ry, Miss Viola Glover, Mrs. Hazel Cobb, Mrs. Mortimer White, Mrs. Win. White. Miss Minnie Johnson was hostess t n Friday evening, May 29, at a din rer at the Norlina Hotel. The party motored to Norlina leaving Rosemary at 6:30. Covers were laid for ten guests. At each plate was a corsage of sweet peas, rose sand ferns. The center piece for the table was made of pink phlox, white lighted tapers in green holders added much to the beauty of the occasion. A five course dinner was served to the following guests: Misses Ruth Transou, Olivia Rook, Julia and Virgiina Blount, Sara Gurley, Marjorie Caldwell. Margaret Clark, Margie Cannon and Mrs. T. M. Jenkins. When Mrs. Lelia Elam of Hum boldt, Tenn told the judge that a pro hibition agent had coaxed her to sell him liquor, the judge fined her one cent and scored the officer.
