Boyd and Miss Eliza Cay visited Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gay in Severn last week. Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Hedgepeth and children, Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Ray and daughter, and Mrs. W. H. Jones .vis ited Mrs. E. N. Bidgood in Ports mouth last Sunday. Vernon Piland of Portsmouth spent the week-end with Russell Buxton Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Miss Verna Freeman, who is a graduate nurse at the Roanoke Ra r'ds hospital and who has been mak ing her home in Newark, X. J.. for some time, was a visitor in town last week. Misses Margie Cannon and Mary Sue Hughes were hostesses to the Merry Makers Bridge Club Saturday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. 1, .S. Cannon. High score prize was won by Miss Mary B. Cannon. The Friday Afternoon Bridge Club was entertained on May 20, by Mrs. T. W. M. Long at her home on Ham ilton Street. There twenty four club members and guests. The guest of honor, Miss Margaret Barrow, bride elect, was given a tray as a prize. The high score club prize was won by Mrs. lulian Allsbrook, who was given tow els. Master Randloph Speight celebrat ed his seventh birthday Monday af ternoon, June 1 at his home. The lit tle folks played games such as tag, fisher, ball and many others and he received many birthday gifts. Lem onade, cake and peanuts were served end baskets of mints were given as favors. The guests were Margaret and Josephine Speight, Alice Gay lord, Harry Weathers, Norris Hannon Fill Pruden, Doyle and Gordon Dob bins, Jack and William Sanders and Jimmy McGee. Malcolm Outland was host to sev eral of his friends Saturday night, May 30th, celebrating his 13th birth day. There were games and amuse ments of various kinds, each guest wishing him happy birthday. Can dies, peanuts, cake and cream were served as refreshments and there were many appropriate birthday gifts The guests were Misses Marcella Marks, Alese Smith, Ethel Reeves, Cora Riggan, Marjorie Collins, Hel en Wilkinson, Juanita Underwood, El sie Simpson, Mary McNeil, Helen Stewrat, Malcolm Outland, James Hudson, Otho Hudson, Sidney Frank, James Kirk and Irwin Boyd. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Coggsdale spent Sunday with her sister, Mrs. J. Y. Johnson. Capron, Va. Miss Pauline Nicholson, who re cently underwent an operation for ap pendicitis at Roanoke Rapids hospit al, is rapidly recuperating, and it :s thought, will be able to return to her home Thursday. Mrs. R. H. Pope was hostess on Friday afternoon with bridge at her borne on Hamilton Street. When the scores were collected Mrs. Alvis George was found to hold high score and was given a flower bowl. Mrs. George Lampley was given a string oi beads as consolation prize. A sal ad course was served at five ’clock. Those playing were: Mesdames Geo. Lampley, R. L. Martin, C. L. Elting, Bernard Edmondson, Paul Weeks, R. M. Pope, Bob Taylor, Ivy Mohorn, Alvis George, M. C. Newsome and Mrs. Gilliam. Mrs. Frank Hawley entertained the Monday Night Bridge Club at her home on Hamilton Street June 1st. High score prize, a bottle of bath salts was won by Mrs. Frank Wilson. \ salad course was served at 10:15. Those playing: Mesdames Howard Pruden, Julian Allsbrook, Hugh Camp David Traynham. Mrs .George Johnson was hostess to Circle No. 1 of the Christian Church Aid Society at her home on Henry St., last Tuesday evening.
