HALIFAX happenings MisS Naomi Dickens and Caswell Chaw enjoyed being with friends in Durham Sunday. Miss Virginia Rad liffe of Durham accompanied them un their return to be the guest of Miss Dickens. Miss Bertha Lee Hux has been a visitor in Durham, Rocky Mount and Fayetteville, during the week-end. Miss Undine Hux and Guy Caudell visited Miss Kitty Moffitt, former teacher in the Halifax graded school, at her home in Wakefield, Va„ Sun day. Mrs. Quentin Gregory and Miss Annie Cherry of Roanoke Rapids, re turned Monday after a visit i n Greensboro and Reidsville. Miss dlorothy Campbell, a student at the Business College in Richmond, has spent the week at home. She will return to Richmond to resume her studies on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. (Cracker) Johnson are parents of a son weigh ing 8 1-2 pounds born at the Roanoke Rapids hospital on June 8th. Both Mrs. Johnson and baby are reported doing well. Nathan Stedman, who has been at tending the Shenandoah Valley Aca demy at Winchester, Va., is now at home for the summer holidays. Mrs. Elizabeth S. Boyd and Miss Edna Campbell returned Monday from Richmond after a busy and en joyable week-end there. Miss Ursula Marshall and Jack Tillery are among our students who are home for vacation time. Miss Marshall has been attending N. C. C. W., at Greensboro, and Mr. Tillery the University of N. C. Rev. W. Carleton Wilson accom panied Presiding Elder L. D. Jones of Weldon to Richmond on Monday, June Sth to carry Mr. Jones’ daugh ter for medical examination. W. T. Eure and son, William, were in Asheboro and Durham this week for business purposes. Mrs. Rena Pepper, Mr. and Mrs. J .E. Pittard and Mrs. G. H. Dickens motored to Litleton Sunday. Quentin Pittard has returned from Aurelian Springs, where he has been visiting his grandmother, Mrs. H. A. Smith. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Burchette were the guests of Mrs. N. L. Sted man Sunday evening. Mrs. J. L. Weller of Norfolk, Va., was a visitor in the home of her aunt, Mrs. H. B. Ferguson on Friday. Den nison of Batesburg, S. C., were visit ors in Rocky Mount Saturday even ing. Jessie E. Pittard is spending some lime in Aurelian Springs with his1 grandmother, Mrs. M. A. Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jordan and son from Sarasota, Fla., were guests of Mrs. N. L. Stedman on Saturday night. Charlie Cochran of Rocky Mount was a visitor in town Thursday . Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Pittard have as their guest Miss Vitula Pittard of Littleton. F. H. Gregory attend a meeting of the Trustees of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill Tues day. He was accompanied by Mrs. Gregory who stopped over in Dur ham on her return to attend com mencement exercises at Duke Uni versity. Sunday, June 14th, Mr. and Mrs. Van Warren and Miss Julia Bronson Warren of Rocky Mount and Miss Mary Frances Harvey of Littleton spent the day with relatives here. Mrs. Elizabeth S. Boyd, Misses Dot and Edna Campbell, accompanied by Nathan Stedman, left for Wake For est Wednesday. Mrs. Boyd entered I the summer school to complete her course in law. Thursday evening, June 11th, Miss | Naomi Dickens honored her house guest Miss Virginia Radcliffe of Durham, by entertaining at bridge a number of young people here and from out of town. The following guests enjoyed the party: Misses Virginia Radcliffe, Durham, N. C., Fdna and Dot Campbell, Annie Lewis Hale, Undine Hux, Mr. and Mrs. Whitley Draper, Weldon, Mr. and Mrs. Norfleet Clark, Weldon, Messrs I Charley Boykin, Nathan Stedman, W. F. Davis, Raymond Millikin, Caswell Shaw and James Harris of Weldon. Refreshments consisting of frozen fruit salad, olive sandwiches, cheese wafers, nuts and ice tea were served, after which Miss Dickens presented Miss Radcliffe with a guest prize. Ladies high score was given Miss An nie Lewis Hale, gentlemens high to Mr. Norfleet Clark and low score 'Consolation went to Mr. Raymond Millikin. The following were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. N. L.. Mrs. W. C. Allsbrook gave her an nual dinner party at her home on Washington Street in honor of the school faculty who make their home with her during the school session. Just before the dinner was over Miss Lee Arnold started a note around the table which read, “i^yler-Goodall, 1931.” Miss Arnold requested that each one as they read the note to keep the secret so it would be enjoy cy by all as they read. It was a com plete surprise to Miss Ayler’s many friends. The bride elect, Miss Ber nice Ayler, has been a member of the school faculty here for four years and is quite popular. Mr. F. M.
