Next Week At Local Theatres CHESTER MORRIS and. JEAN HARLOW m 1 I i "RED HEADED WOMAN"—* MOVIE GOSSIP Keep an eye on Elissa Landi and Joan Bennett, their next pictures will tell if their contract is to be renewed or not. f - Did you know that the entire Barrymore family—yes I mean Ethel too, will all appear in one picture. The film is going to be “Rasputin,” sounds like a swell role for Lionel. At last Marlene Dietrich got a break. Her next picture now in the cutting room, “The Blonde Venus” is a real hit and gives her a chance to show what she can really do Yes, you’ll see the Dietrich legs too. Jean Hersholt is a Dane— not a German as so many think. Crawford’s best scenes were cut from “Grand Hotel,” because with them in—she stole the show. Diane Sinclaire, who is foreign born, plays a middle western girl in “Washington Masquerade,” and Karene Morley who hails from Ot tumwa, Iowa plays a foreigner in the same picture. Now isn’t that just like Hollywood? Joe E. Brown, recuperating from a series of severe operations at a Los Angeles hotel, has left for a rest and vacation at Catalina Is land. Maurice Chevalier sailed Satur day for France. NEW LOW PRICES Both Roanoke Rapids theatres this week announce new low prices for all shows at 10 and 25 cents. In the past this has been the matinee and Friday and Saturday prices, but m the future this will be the prices every day in the week matinees and nights. Neither management was ready to say if this would be a perma nent arrnagement, but it will cer tainly last the rest of the sum mer and if the increased patron age warrants will probably be con tinued indefinitely. RED-HEAD WOMAN The newest edition of Liberty Magazine, has the following to say of “Red Headed Woman,” the fea ture shownig at the Peoples Thea ter Mon. and Tues.: “Jean Har low, erstwhile platinum blonde, temporarily a red head, gives a jjarformance you will not soon forget in this filming i<f Kather ine Brushs novel of a stenographer who ‘brings ’em back alive’ mors effectively than explorer Frank Buck himself,” Lil Andrews puts a price upon her affections. She picks her mala victims and goes after them with amorous astuteness. The films have stepped far from Pollyanna in unfolding the progress of this hard - boiled little adventuress. There is more than a cynical hint on the screen these days that the wages of r.;n get few depression cuts. The redhead breaks up the home of the wealthy young Bill Legendre brings about a divorce, and even marries her victim. An ambitious unfaithfulness leads her on to a new amatory goal. In the end you see her at French race tracks the toast of the day. Miss Harlow makes Lil a very real and earthly figure. There is no softening of the character; for Lil remains always a cheap, flam boyant little cheater. You know the type. She is the sort of girl who, when she goes down the street, can empty a pool parlor quicker than four alarm fire. “Red Headed Woman” is the first of a series of outstanding hits that the Peoples will bring you un der the new summer admission price of ten and twenty-five cents either matir.ee or night.
