The High School Parent-Teach ers Association will meet at the High School building at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29th.. All parents are urged to be present. The Civics Dept of the Womans Club will meet Monday, Sept. 26 at 3 o’clock with Mrs. W. A. China All members are urged to be pres ent. Mrs. Thos. O’Berry of Golds boro, N. C., will speak at the reg ular meeting of the Woman’s Club which meet; the first Monday in October. .Mrs. O’Berry is a wom an of outstanding ability. She has held the office of president of the State Fedeat on of Womens Clubs. The Production committee of the American Red Cross, a volunteer organization for relief, sends out an urgent lequest that the ladies in town who have any discarded clothes that could be used by oth ers, to please send them to the home of Mrs. R. P. Beckwith or notify Mrs. Hugh Camp, Mrs. Howard Pruden, .Mrs. J. E. Cox, Mrs. Frank Joyner, and any one of this committee will call for same. Dr. R. G. McLees, blind evangelist, spoke before the Kiwanis Club at its meeting tonight. The club is now meeting in the regular club room over the Peoples Theatre. FOR MRS. SAUNDERS Mrs. R. C. Last night just before 8:30, the ! Dept, was in session at the semi monthly instruction meeting at the Town Hall. Looking out the window some of the boys saw a fire a block away. They blew the siren from the meeting room and dashed to the fire before anyone had time to turn in an alarm. It was the garage of J. M. Rice, corner Third and Jackson. A car in one side was pushed out to safety. The belongings of a ser vant in the center of the building were destroyed. Part of the build ing was saved. The fire appeared to start from the alley side from an unknown source. There are no wires or stove in the garage. Midyette Rites Set For Today at 3 P.M. Jackson, Sept. 21.—Funeral ser vices for Judge G. E. Midyette will be held in Jackson Methodist Church Thursday at 3 p. m. In terment will be in the local ceme tery. The services will be con ducted by Rev. B. P. Robinson of Hertford, assisted by Rev. E. C. Maness, pastor of the Methodist church here and Rev. Richard Lloyd, pastor of the local Baptist church. The pallbearers will be John Green Stancell, T. J. Long, George C. Green, L. C. Grant, E. W. Lewis, R. Hunt Parker, Roa noke Rapids; A. C. Day, D. C. Barnes, Murfreesboro. Very simple services are plan ned. World Series Baseball Again The schedule has been completed for baseball’s annual world series, first two games to be played at' Yankee stadium. New York, September 28 and 29. Anticipating the triumph of the Chicago Cubs in the National League pennant race, the next two games are scheduled at Chicago oa October 1 and 2. . . . The motorcade will be heralded by men on motorcy cles and the entire community is invited to turn out to greet the visitors. The State fair this year will he featured by greatly re duced admission prices and record breaking crowds are expected. LOSES EYE George McNabb, employee o f Roanoke Hardware Co., lost the sight of his left eye this morning while opening a case of hardware. Mac was using a hammer and hatchet in prizing open the box. A piece of the face of the hatchet broke off and flew in his eye, piercing the ball. Dr. Royster removed the metal with a magnet but the sight of the eye was destroyed. Mac will be confined for several days to re move chances for infection or com plication. Mrs. Ella Weeks of Whitakers is spending some time here in the home of Mr. and Mi s.
