Going 12 Innings
The fast traveling Yellow Jack
ets baseball club met a snag in
their return game with the Hender
son high aggregation on the Hen
derson diamond Wednesday after
noon in a twelve inning, non-con
ference, affair, the Henderson
outfit pushing over the winning
run in the last stanza with two out
for a 8-7 win.
The Jackets made a good show
in the initial inning. I. Dickens
singled and followed with a home
run by leftfielder Wilton Dickens,
but the Henderson club opened
their fireworks early also, touching
Starke for three bingles and a two
bagger to tally three runs for their
first round at bat.
The Jax had a big inning in the
fifth. Irvin Dickens opened the in
ning with a single and two-baggers
by Allsbrook and W. Dickens with
Hardison’s safety enabled the lo
cals to bring home four runs the
score being 7-5 when Acree reliev
ed Starke on the mound in the sev
enth.
Turner, Henderson centerfielder,
clouted a homer with one on in the
eighth to make th^ score 7-all, the
Jax loaded the bases a number of
times but popper up in their ap
portunity to bring home the win
ning run in the last three frames.
A fluke fly ball in the last of the
twelfth inning and a single by
Scoggin drove home the run that
marked the locals second defeat in
nine games this season.
Harris pitched the route for the
winning club, but was touched for
a dozen hits, led by Hardison with
three safeties and a triple. Wilton
Dickens also starred with a double,
songle, and home run.
Turner hit out a triple, double
and homer to top Henderson at
bat.

Second Consecutive
Championship For
Jax If 2 More Wins
Roanoke Rapids High automati
cally became first district cham
pions in state eliminations when
Edenton high school baseball nine
forfeited the second game of a
scheduled three game series Tues
day.
The locals gave the Edenton nine
a 22-2 walloping last week and it
was needless to say that the Eden
ton outfit were completely out
classed, a second game being un
necessary.
The Jax are making a strong bid
for Eastern honors, only two more
victories and the locals will have
another chance to cop their second
consecutive state championship.
Hamlet and Rockingham are the
two teams that are likely to prove
a thorn for the Jax in their fight
for Eastern Carolina Championship
Both of these clubs have eliminated
all opponents so far.
With only one defeat in eight
starts the Jackets have run up 84
runs to opponents 36, a good record
for any high school nine, especially
the clubs the locals have encounter
ed.
It’s not definite yet as to whom
the locals will tackle next in the
state race, the game with Hender
son yesterday being a non-confer
ence affair, but information will
be handed out Saturday, according
to P. A. Reid, business manager
of the local high school. Both Mr.
Reid and Coach Hoyle will attend
a meeting in Chapel Hill Saturday
