TO HENDERSON I -- Lose To Henderson In Close Contest Going 12 Innings The fast traveling Yellow Jack ets baseball club met a snag in their return game with the Hender son high aggregation on the Hen derson diamond Wednesday after noon in a twelve inning, non-con ference, affair, the Henderson outfit pushing over the winning run in the last stanza with two out for a 8-7 win. The Jackets made a good show in the initial inning. I. Dickens singled and followed with a home run by leftfielder Wilton Dickens, but the Henderson club opened their fireworks early also, touching Starke for three bingles and a two bagger to tally three runs for their first round at bat. The Jax had a big inning in the fifth. Irvin Dickens opened the in ning with a single and two-baggers by Allsbrook and W. Dickens with Hardison’s safety enabled the lo cals to bring home four runs the score being 7-5 when Acree reliev ed Starke on the mound in the sev enth. Turner, Henderson centerfielder, clouted a homer with one on in the eighth to make th^ score 7-all, the Jax loaded the bases a number of times but popper up in their ap portunity to bring home the win ning run in the last three frames. A fluke fly ball in the last of the twelfth inning and a single by Scoggin drove home the run that marked the locals second defeat in nine games this season. Harris pitched the route for the winning club, but was touched for a dozen hits, led by Hardison with three safeties and a triple. Wilton Dickens also starred with a double, songle, and home run. Halifax Tax Collectors May Accept Bonds For Street Assessments Raleigh, April 27.—Senator T. W. M. Long, of Halifax, introduced a bill in the Senate Wednesday, which was passed under suspension of the rules and sent to the sen ate, including Halifax county and the municipalities in Halifax coun ty, in the provisions of a bill pass ed for Randolph county and Ashe boro, directing the tax collecting authorities to accept bonds in pay ment of street assessments and certain taxes. The bill adds a new section to the act, reading as follows: “Section 4-A. All the provisions and authority conferred upon the governing agency of Randolph county and each governing agency • in Randolph county, is hereby con ferred upon the governing agency of Halifax county and each govern ing agency in Halifax county.” Musical Comedy Stars In City Above is Alice Perrell, late of the musical comedy success, “Good News,” Ruby Lane, featured with her in an off-rhythm tap dance number from the revue “Campus Cut-Ups,” which comes to the Peo ples Theatre next Wednesday. Second Consecutive Championship For Jax If 2 More Wins Roanoke Rapids High automati cally became first district cham pions in state eliminations when Edenton high school baseball nine forfeited the second game of a scheduled three game series Tues day. The locals gave the Edenton nine a 22-2 walloping last week and it was needless to say that the Eden ton outfit were completely out classed, a second game being un necessary. The Jax are making a strong bid for Eastern honors, only two more victories and the locals will have another chance to cop their second consecutive state championship. Hamlet and Rockingham are the two teams that are likely to prove a thorn for the Jax in their fight for Eastern Carolina Championship Both of these clubs have eliminated all opponents so far. With only one defeat in eight starts the Jackets have run up 84 runs to opponents 36, a good record for any high school nine, especially the clubs the locals have encounter ed. It’s not definite yet as to whom the locals will tackle next in the state race, the game with Hender son yesterday being a non-confer ence affair, but information will be handed out Saturday, according to P. A. Reid, business manager of the local high school.
