Natural Lake Site
Developed By Local
Men Mile From City
The opening of Roanoke Rapids’
newest amusement park will be
held Friday evening, June 2nd,
with a dance at the newly con
structed pavillion near Lake
Thomas, about one-mile north and
west of the city limits.
The Lake Thomas development
has been under the direction of J.
H. Hines, local man, who owns the
project. Hr. Hines has secured the
services of Shearin Grumpier and
Edwin Aket’s to look after his in
terests this summer, and these
young men will be managers of
the lake, dance pavillion and park.
With extensive improvements
made to an already ideal, natural
lake site, the new lake should
prove a mecca for bathers and
boaters and those wishing to es
cape the hot sung rays this sum
mer. It is the only bathing place
near the city, with the exception
of swimming pool near Rosemary
Manufacturing Company.
Altho it has not yet been an
nounced what orchestra will open
the pavillion, a number of bands
have offered their services, accord
ing to Mr. Hines, and announce
ment in detail will be made next
week. It is planned to have regu
lar dances at the pavillion, and
some of the Nation’s best-known
jazz bands will be booked to play
them later on in the season.
In addition to the pavillion and
bath houses, there will be a cafe
on the location, catering to light
lunches, and free picnic grounds
will be maintained.
-Lake Thomas is situated on a
c-reek, just a few yards from the
Roanoke River about one-mile from
the North boundary of the city
limits, on what is known as the
old Zollicoffer mill site.
A dam was erected at this place
-over three years ago, but has been
completely re-built by a crew of
workmen, and the lake has been
cleaned out and materially enlarg
ed. Because of the variation of
depth in the lake, ranging from
shallowness that will allow small
children to wade and play around
the water in safety to the deepest
point which will permit high div
ing for more experienced swim
mers, it will be an ideal swimming
place, and the lakes surface will
be ample to permit boating also.
A life guard will be on duty at all
times.
With a continuous stream of
water flowing into the lake from
the creek on which it is located,
bathers are insured of fresh, clear
water at all times. Pinal arrange
ments are being made, and the
early part of June will see the lake
in full operation.

THAT the largest dam of its kind in the world is the Gouin dam orl1'
the Saint Maurice River in northern Quebec? The dam forms an'
artificial lake covering 300 square miles with a storage capacity of 160
billion square feet of water. In order to build the dam a number offl
villages had to be evacuated. The houses that once formed these
villages are now covered by many feet of water. The dam gets its name
from a former prime minister of Quebec, and the water is used to
provide electric energy. Only a portion of the dam is shown in the
phcicrraph.

Wake Up Your Liver Bile
—Without Calomel
And You’ll Jump Out of Bed
in the Morning Rarin’ to Go
If you feel sour and sunk and the
world looks punk, don’t swallow a lot
of salts, mineral water, oil, laxative
candy or chewing gum and expect
them to make you suddenly sweet
and buoyant and full of sunshine.
For they can’t do it. They only
move the bowels and a mere move
ment doesn’t get at the cause. The
reason for your down-and-out feeling
is your liver. It should pour out two
pounds of Equid bile into your bowels
daily.
If this bile is not flowing freely, your food
doesn't digest. It just decays in the bowels.
Gas bloats up your stomach. You have a
thick, bad taste and your breath is foul, skin
often breaks out In blemishes. Your head
aches and you feel down and out. Your whole
system is poisoned.
It takes those good old CARTER’S LITTLE
LIVER PILLS to get these two pounds of bile
flowing freely and make you feel “up and up.*
They contain wonderful, harmless, gentle
vegetable extracts, amazing when it comes to
making the bile flow freely.
But don’t ask for liver pills. Ask for Carter’s
Little Liver Pills. Look for the name Carter’s
Little Liver Pills on the red labeL Resent a
substitute. 25c it all stores. ©1931.C. M.Co.
