2 CITY LEAGUE GAMES SAT. ******************** * * * * * Kilo Swats “Upset Dope” Taking First Game Of Season Tabs Play Bascoes For Second Time Iri City League Games A double header is carded for City League play Saturday, the Kilo-Swats and Trueworths mix ing it at 2 P. M., and the Tabs meeting the Bascoes at 4 P. M., in which promises to be a real after noon of intertainment. Ladies will be admitted j.ree. The Kilo-Swats, victorious last week for their first time, have reinforced their team with college players and the Trueworths are looking for a real struggle. Starke will be on the mound for the pow er boys with F. Dickens on the receiving end, while Crowder and Coburn will no doubt form the Trueworth’s battery. The Trueworths have one of the heaviest swatting clubs in the lea gue and from views of their last tilt will darken the chances of another victory for the Vepcco nine. In other words the City Lea gue is improving in their baseball and future games will give the fans the kind of ball liked, with pitch ers duels, one run victories, etc. The second game to be called at 4 P. M. will see the two bog clubs of the league in another close fight. A win for the Herald Tabs will probably cinch the first half of the league’s championship while the Bascoes also run close behind the Tabs in the league rating. Ollie Acree will start on the mound for the Tabs and Sullivan or Outland behind the home plate. Acree won his only game pitched in the league so far this season, and will be after the second straight for his club Saturday, against one of the strongest out fits to hook up with. Finch or Birdsong, with Bird song more likeable, will start for the Bascoes, and Mills handling the mitt behind home plate. This game is the feature of the double-headr. Admission is only twenty-five cents for both games, come out and see your favorite club win or get licked. Patterson Juniors Lick Rocky Mount In Saturday Game Behind three-hit pitching of Spencer, the Patterson Mill Juni ors trounced the Rocky Mount Y. M. C. A. George, local boy, slapped out four hits for five trys, a triple, two doubles and a single. Moseley, Brown, May and Garris got two blows each to feature the locals attack. First recol lection of these two ball clubs were brought to light when we received an account of their game by mail this week and gladly print herewith their story: Garners Wildcats Win 8-5 Sunday the “Wildcats” meet “Pea Hill” at Weldon winning with a score of 8-5. This was an interesting game for all those who looked on. This is the “Wildcats” third game winning two and losing one. Warren, pitcher warmed up by the 4th enning and this ended their scoring. Joe Willey s.s. and Edgar Glasgow 3rd base both add ed two runs to the score for the wildcats. Next Sunday they will meet “Buzzard town”. Nethery, 2nd base added two runs for “Pea Hill.” Line up were: “Pea Hill” Starling c, D. Jordon s. s., A. Jordon 3b., W. Stephenson c. f.,; Nethery 2b.; Ivey lb, J. Jordon r. f., J. Stephenson p, Land ing 1. f. “Wildcats” E. Glasgow 3b, S. Garner r. f., O. Warren c., John Willey c. f., W. Warren p. J. Glasgow 1. f. Joe Willey s. s., Jor don lb, 0. Garner 2b. Signed: “Wildcats.” From the line up it was quite a brotherly team for both clubs. Don’t miss the Bunkers Hill game this Sunday. Perhaps the wildcats will send us information as to where the game will be played and other details about their club. The City League is quite inter esting since the Kilo-Swats won a game Saturday. The Bascoes, victims of the Kilo-Swats, tells us the City League championship will be a cinch for the Kilo-Swats if they next sign Lefty Grove and Johnny Allen to pitch the balance of their schedule, while the Kilo Swats say the Bascoes can’t take it. It seems that the Kilo-Swats are using men on their club that are uneligible for play according to rules “drew-up” when the League opened and are the Bascoes hot? If more interest is shown with the fans, why not break all rules for more gate receipts ? C. Wiomble lucked three hits Saturday playing for the Swats as fans tell me, and if he wasn’t so blooming lazy he could or would have gotten four bingles - it looked like a walking marathon when he gets set to run out a base knock. At least one former Jacket foot ball player made the glee club at Use This Laxative made from plants Thedford’s Black-Draught is made from plants that grow in the ground, like the garden vegetables you eat at every meal. NATURE has put into these plants ah active medicine that stimulates the bowels to act — Just as Nature put the ma terials that sustain your body into the vegetable foods you eat. In Black-Draught you have a natu ral laxative, tree from synthetic drugs. Its us^ does not make you have to depend on cathartic chemical drugs to get the bowels to act daily. Now you can act Black-Draught in the form of a SYRUP, for Children. Carolina U. this year—Speight is often heard in his sleep repeating “Broadway here I come”—if you know it “Pig” is quite a crooner so say the skirts. Just before school closed Coach Hoyle called out candidates who were expecting to report for foot ball drills at the opening of the next school year. 115 boys showed up and all with high spirits. If you ask me a number of these boys will have to be escorted by a nurse or brought to the drills in a baby carriage. Talking about the argument in the Piedmont League over lighting systems—-The Yellow Jackets are wondering how Hoyle will manage to drill them next fall by auto headlights after burning out a couple of batteries during the foot ball season last year. ._ Those two Womble boys sure caused a big part in the Kilo-Swats first victory—and the Vepco play ers still hate to admit they are getting old—they rate yet—high price power rates. The state prison farm at Cale donia is eager to book a game with a local ball club soon—we may have a few of our local players as opponents—and wouldn’t that be a familiar gathering? _ It is understood ladies will be admitted free to all City League games so in the future ladies you won’t have to jump the fence. Just think of all the clerks in the local stores that were once ball players and still like the game —they beg- of the local clubs to stage a few of their games on Wednesday afternoons. If you fail to see any local base ball game and would like to get an inning by inning account of it, just venture on the avenue, any lamp post will be convenient. j- Rev. I. N.
