Woman s Club Has Year Of Accomplishments Many Worth While Accomplishments Made During Year Last year under the joint lead ership of Mrs. C. A. Wyche and Mrs. J. N. Bynum, the Womans Club had one of the most success ful year9 since its organization. The dream of the Club was real ized in the completion of the club house. Mrs. A. Meikle, Chairman, Mrs. Charlena Hart and Mrs. T. R. Manning were the building com mittee, and in this capacity they served with untiring zeal during the summer months and at the first meeting of the club year in September, turned the keys of the finished building over to the club. In the early fall the club was hostess to the community. A de lightful meeting was enjoyed with about two hundred people as guest. A program of speeches and music was given. In October the local club was hostess to the clubs of the 14th district, with about seventeen visiting clubs and a bout a hundred and twenty-five visitors registered. Mrs. J. N. By num took active leadership of the club in the fall, owing to the ill ness of Mrs. C. A. Wyche, who at that time was president. Mrs. Bynum is most efficient and has made the club a splendid leader. Some delightful programs were given during the year. Miss Marjorie Beal from the Library extension of the University of North Carolina, Miss Elizabeth Busbee, Chairman of Garden De partment of the State Federation, Mrs. O’Berry, member State Demo cratic Committiee, Mrs. W. T. Bost Welfare leader, Mr. J. N. Bynum, local Chairman of welfare work, all appeared on programs as speakers, and every program was filled in with variations of music, readings, slides, etc. Mrs. Bynum and Mrs. Beckwith have been most active in getting a library started and have at pres ent over a hundred books that have been donated. This branch of work will probably be the most outstanding during the coming year. The welfare department un der the leadership of Mrs. Bahn son Weathers has been far reach ing in effect. They have cared for undernourished children, supplied milk for palagra and T. B. cases, sponsored several delightful club programs and have established play grounds for children this summer. Mrs. FTank Joyner, chairman of civics department, has made a splendid leader and has accom plished much in a civic way. Meikle, the splendid leader of the garden department, has been most active in this phase of club work. Several delightful club programs have been given. Monthly meetings of this depart ment have been held and the crowning event of this department was the lovely flower show put on in April. The American Home Depart ment with Mrs. R. P. Beckwith as leader, gave two instructive pro grams for the club, this depart ment joined the garden depart ment and is now known as the Garden and Home Department. Three delightful musical teas were given by the club during the Exceptional Offering COTTON and LINEN SUITS with an eye to fit, style and comfort. Hugh Camp, Mrs. Howard Pruden and Mrs. George Hayes, sponsor ed a play for the club house and the money made at this play was used to purchase four dozen club chairs. The aim of Mrs. Bynum, the club president for next year, is a paid membership of a hundred mem bers. Let’s pull together for a better and bigger Roanoke Rap ids. Several local citizens have been most generous in donations for furnishing the club and more com forts will be added from time to time. The club hopes to be able to arrange some way to heat the building before fall.
