AUTOMOBILES MAKES
SUBSTANTIAL GAIN
Nearly Twice Amount Cars
Sold In June This Year
Over Last Year
TRUCKS GAIN TOO
New automobiles sold in North
Carolina in June reached 2370 and
490 trucks as compared with 1429
cars and 286 trucks in June 1932,
and 2160 cars and 513 trucks in
May of this year, Leland Harris,
Motor Vehicle Bureau chief, re
ports.
Total new automobiles sold so
far this calender year number
9626 and 2000 trucks, as compared
with 7106 cars and 1736 trucks in
the first six months of last year
This increase of 2520 cars and 264
trucks in six months is looked up
on as a remarkable come-back in
new motor vehicle sales in six
months.
Chevrolet led last month with
1040, Fords 472, Plymouths 370
and Pontiacs 124. Only one each
of four big cars were sold, Frank
lin, LaSalle, Lincoln and Pierce
Arrow. Four Cadillacs and five
Packards and Auburns, but 36 lit
tle Austins found purchasers.

tive Unit (Roanoke Rapids Graded
School District) in Halifax Coun
ty, North Carolina, on the 15th
day of August, 1933, between the
hours of sunr ise and sunset, to as
certain whether there shall be lev
ied in said unit a local annual
tax not to exceed 50c on the
$100.00 valuation of all property,
real and personal to supplement
the funds provided by state bud
get allottments for the state sup
ported public school eight months
term and in addition thereto to
provide funds for conducting a
ninth month of school (a total
term of not more than I8d days)
in said Roanoke Rapids City Ad
ministrative Unit. The boundaries
of said unit, which are the same
as those of the Roanoke Rapids
Graded School District are as fol
lows:
All territory lying within the
corporate limits of the town of
Roanoke Rapids, and all of the
portion of Halifax County not em
braced within said corporate lim
its, but lying contiguous ther»L3
within the following boundaries,
to-wit: Beginning at a point on
Roanoke River, being the dividing
line between the farms of the es
tate of M. A. Hamilton, deceased,
and the late B. W. Bass tract;

Roanoke Navigation and Water

canal to Medlin and Fulghum’s
line; thence a straight line to the
Weldon and Gaston County road;
thence west along said county
road to Tilgham’s Cross Roads;

elected president of the N. C.
Bar Association at its annual
meeting at Wrightsville Beach at
the closing session Saturday, at
which J. B. Cheshire, Jr., Raleigh;
Zeb V. Nettles, Asheville and W.
F. Taylor, Goldsboro, were elect
ed vice-presidents and If. M. Lon
don, re-elected secretary. E. E.
Rivers, Greensboro and B. H. Cov
ington, Wadesboro, were added to
the executive committee, which
will select the next meeting place.
Clarence E. Martin, Martinsburg,
W. Va., president of the American
Bar Association, was the principal
final speaker, pleading for State’s
rights. He did not refer to “pres
ent federal emergency legislation”
which he termed “merely for tem
porary purposes and for a limited
time only. He was introduced by
Governor Ehringhaus.
Miss Virginia Bell Vincent is
visiting friends in Paces, Va.
Mr. and Mrs. Tow White left
Saturday for a vacation spent at
Virginia Beach, Va., and other
points of interest.
