At Methodist Church
Rev. A. S. Barnes, Superinten
dent of the Methodist Orphanage
at Raleigh, will preach at the
First Methodist Church, Roanoke
Rapids, next Sunday morning,
August 20th.
Rev. Mr. Bames has been in
charge of the orphanage for many
years, and is known to many peo
ple in Roanoke Rapids, having
visited here a number of times in
the interest of his work. The mem
bership of the church is especi
ally urged, and the public in gen
eral is cordially invited to attend i

Rev. L. A. Watts of Seaboard,
will preach at this church Sun-1
day evening at 8 o’clock. All are
invited to hear Mr. Watts, who is
a new man in this district, and j
therefore not known to many. He
is a strong gospel preacher, andi
will deliver an excellent message. ■

Gilbert Frances entertained a
few of his friends last Friday
evening, August 11th at the home
of his aunt, Mrs. Charles Speight,
the occasion being his thirteenth
birthday. There were lots of out
door games and guessing contests
and refreshments consisting of
cake and cream were served to

The County Board of Education
will meet at Halifax, North Caro
lina, on the twenty-fifth day of
August, 1933, at ten o’clock a. m.,
for the “purpose of laying out and
determining the route to be follow
ed by each school truck to be op
erated in the County. It shall be
the duty of the principal of each
school to which pupils are trans
ported to attend this meeting. The
State School Commission shall
have authority to approve or dis
approve in whole or in part the
proposed routings. An appeal from
