Visiting Preachers At Methodist Church Rev. A. S. Barnes, Superinten dent of the Methodist Orphanage at Raleigh, will preach at the First Methodist Church, Roanoke Rapids, next Sunday morning, August 20th. Rev. Mr. Bames has been in charge of the orphanage for many years, and is known to many peo ple in Roanoke Rapids, having visited here a number of times in the interest of his work. The mem bership of the church is especi ally urged, and the public in gen eral is cordially invited to attend i this service at the Methodist' church Sunday morning and hear' Mr. Barnes. Rev. L. A. Watts of Seaboard, will preach at this church Sun-1 day evening at 8 o’clock. All are invited to hear Mr. Watts, who is a new man in this district, and j therefore not known to many. He is a strong gospel preacher, andi will deliver an excellent message. ■ l MRS. SMITH HOSTESS I . Mrs. O. L. Smith entertained Wednesday afternoon at a party1 in honor of her granddaughter, Miss Yvonne Hayes, of Asheville, the occasion being her 8th birth day. Games were played and con tests held in which Miss Marga ret Burton and Bronson Edwards won prizes. H. Hargrove, Jr. Miss Hayes was the recipient of many lovely gifts. HIS 13TH BIRTHDAY Gilbert Frances entertained a few of his friends last Friday evening, August 11th at the home of his aunt, Mrs. Charles Speight, the occasion being his thirteenth birthday. There were lots of out door games and guessing contests and refreshments consisting of cake and cream were served to Norma Grissom, Margaret Speight, Hazel Grissom, Gordon Dobbins, Randolph Speight, Bill Pruden and Doyle Oobbins. CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY Miss Helen Margaret Hedgepeth entertained a few friends Thurs day morning from 9:30 ’til 11:30 in honor of her 9th birthday. After several games were played, ice cream and mints were served.
